Spark plug change interval for a street driven 2010 GT3 RS?
Hey guys,
It's time for the 60k service on my newly acquired 2010 GT3 RS. Since the car has been religiously maintained by the previous owner (and I have all the service records), I can see that the spark plugs were last changed in August 2012 at 47866 miles. The car currently has 60200 miles and I'm ready to take it in for service this coming weekend (after the next car show!).
I was looking through the actual service intervals in my owners manual (as well as online) and can see that a spark plug change doesn't appear to be in the standard set of parts for update, and my manual leads me to believe the spark plug service interval is 40k miles for non-turbos and 30k miles for turbos. Would that same interval apply to a high revving Mezger GT3 that is street driven?
I can obviously save a good chunk of change by not having the plugs done, but am curious how many miles you guys are getting out of them on street driven cars, and if I'm even following the service intervals correctly.
Seeing the parts from Suncoast, here is the parts and labor breakdown I noticed for the 60k service (assuming it also applies to the 2010 GT3 RS). Thanks for any help.
This time I really did btw.
This Kit Includes:
- Oil Filter, o-ring, and crush washer
- Wiper Blade Set
- Summer Windshield Wiper Fluid
- Charcoal Pollen Filter
Recommended inspections for this mileage:
- Diagnostic system - read out any faults in memory (Porsche Dealer)
- Inspect all under-body panels - ensure all are secure and tight
- Inspect coolant level and antifreeze
- Inspect radiators for blockage or external debris
- Inspect brake hoses and lines
- Inspect all drive shaft boots for leaks or wear
- Inspect tire condition and air pressure
- Check front firewall drains (rear drains on cabrios)
- Check the door, lid locks, and hood latches for proper function
- Check vehicle lighting and headlight functionality
- Check horn function
- Check windshield & headlight washer system & nozzles.
- Check battery condition and electrolyte level
- Check function of electrical equipment, including warning and turn signal lights
- Visual inspection of pads & rotors for signs of wear
- Inspect airbag system every four years
- Inspect tire pressure monitors every two years
- Inspect motor & transmission mounts every two years
- Inspect roll-over protection system every two years (cabrio)

24k miles on spark plugs.
You don't want to exceed this interval. Mine were definitely due for replacement when i changed them at 26k. You don't want to be replacing catalytic converters in the future because you tried to save on plugs.

See attached service intervals for 2010 gt3...
Note that the recommended accessory belt change on the 3.8 cars is twice as frequent as the 997.1: every 24k miles.

while we're on this topic...what's the verdict on coolant flushes on .1 and .2 cars??
I know what porsche suggests and it seems crazy (to me!).
Also fuel filter which isn't listed?
My .1 has 27k, 2007. had plugs done 2k ago (along with tranny fluid)... I ordered a fuel filter, drive belt, will replace them along with a brake flush. These 2 seem easy enough to do from the FAQs posted here. Thinking after 6 years coolant should be replaced.

I would change the coolant whenever you have to open the system...tranny removal to do a clutch, waterpump replacement, coolant hoses, etc. Otherwise, don't worry about it.
Fuel filter 48k.
