I'll be wrapping my car and need to figure out how to remove the following:

Bumper (saw instructions but not clear if wheel removal is necessary)
Front fender
Gas cap
Side mirrors
Flaps on the roof that cover the ski rack attachments
Air scoops on the rear deck
Wing (remove from uprights) - stock on 997.1
Headlights
Tail lights
Exterior door handles

Wheel removal not necessary for bumper but makes it easier. If you are removing fender will need to remove wheel anyway.

Headlights look in manual for instructions.

Can't help with the rest.

Tail lamps, open engine cover, loosen 2x torx screws on inner edges of tail lamps (no need to remove) remove lamp and disconnect.

Buy 997 manual on DVD on ebay for the rest. Very cheap

I watched them do it and it does not seem like an easy DIY job, but maybe you have experience?

Buying the manual on eBay or amazon is a wise investment. There a ton of secrets to removing the panels, what slides where first etc. I would never attempt this type of job without getting one. That said its all fairly easy. On the headlight is usually a 5 mm socket from inside the front hood. Easy as pie once you know where it's at.

Yeah myself. I've messed with vinyl before so I have some experience. I just don't believe in paying someone $4k for this when the cost of materials is $200.

The hardest part to wrap will probably be the wing uprights due to the wierd curves. Also, if I can get the fender off that'll help with getting the frontal door edges. Bumper, hood, roof, and rear quarter should be easy. I'll be using 3M's 1080 film which is supposed to be super easy. It has micro channels under the film to help move air bubbles. It also doesn't stick hard until pressure is applied.

The front; remove the trunk lining in order to expose the screws, remove the lights, then the bumper, followed by the wheel liners and finally the fenders. Don't forget to remove the screws underneath the "splitter". Also be careful with the airbag sensors in front of the wheels, behind the lights. Gas cap is a breeze, just undo the cap itself and once you have the wheel liners off make sure to undo the electronics the open and lock the gas door. Also for the front fenders, don't forget to unscrew the diagonal supports.

The rear is a ton easier. Remove the lights and then the bumper.

The side mirrors are very easy but also easy to break the cover. On the inside, lift the triangle (drier side has the electricals for adjusting them). Remove the screws and voilà. Don't drop them, they're like boat anchors. The door handles I believe have to be removed from the inside, not 100% sure on that.

I've done this all myself and all I can tell you is, it is a legit pain in the ***! Especially putting it back together, make sure to label everything if not it could get ugly. I labeled, OCD style and it was still a bitch!

Oh yeah and I had tons of help from guys like 911Slow & Mikymu who sent manuals and diagrams. Also go on the Porsche website, the parts manual is there to be downloaded for free.

yeah I'll try. still looking for instructions on removing some panels though.

• Especially the rear deck related stuff (wing, air scoops).
• Front Bumper (only hard part is getting to the screws in the wheel well to remove)
• Fender (might not have to remove if I can wrap around the corner near the side mirrors)
• Roof (only the little flaps for the roof rack will be hard)
• Doors should be easy if I can reach inside the front half (towards the fender) edge.
• Side mirrors - need to take off and split the two halves will make it easier to wrap

This is very much a black art in Oz and you would think the installers here strip you car of every last bolts and panel then dip in gold for the prices they want to charge also they only do the obvious/ normal kit and won't do the whole car!!??
