Oh yes, the ole oil pump issue. A tricky little tart along with a properly precision built bullet proof crankshaft.

Is that oil pump different from the 3.8 RS? If so, what is the part number?

The 4.0 engine is about the same price as a 3.8, which is about the same price of a 3.6...

Over 50k.

There is no way to justify it... It will not make your car $50k better. If you grenaded your engine and you're already financially screwed, well, why not upgrade.

Edit - $63k list price... Not dealer cost
For complete 4.0 engine

Or when it's worn and needs a "freshening." Mine will be headed to Sharky for a 3.9L when that day comes.

Nah, you won't keep it long enough.
Come 2014 you'll be jones'n for a 991 GT3RS. Going for that 2:12 at Sebring.
Though keep it until the fall. GMG has brought up having a "shoot out" at track out west.

Champion is temporarily selling my car and who knows I might get old fast and need PDK. 991RS + cash to trade in the 4.0 LOL

Shoot outs are gonna get done at Sebring. West coast has no real tracks.
We'll have you, me and another one one, maybe even a few more like Sharky 3.9 and who knows a Ruf?
. I'll volunteer to be the gentle consistent benchmark driver :-)

It would be awesome to do a real test. Not a 5 lap ***** GTR car mag test but a real long 500 mile track test.

I have good hoped for the "other" one.

Seems more than a few of us are looking to upgrade. Serge has been a great resource as well as a number of other board members. My guidance is to use a seasoned builder that has done these conversions a number of times and have the kinks worked out. I'm still waffling between 4.2 and 4.0. Financially it makes no sense, it's just that sirens song of more displacement. Also want to look at the intake/cams as PJ shared an interesting bit with the runner sizes/volumes and shapes...
