Mike,

Please don't get me wrong, I agree 100%. PDK is faster and more efficient. And faster is certainly more fun sometimes. It's just that when I get the manual thing right on occasion, and string a few laps together, I get this feeling that
it's me, it's really me. Fewer mistakes = faster times, no doubt. I am not adverse to technology. I just want to get this manual thing right more often than not. I think it will make me even faster when i eventually get my next generation GT3. I'm content to wait awhile as I am still in awe of my "new" GT3 RS.

Add to this, no lack-of-feel electric steering or linkage-less shifter. Don't really see much of a point in having a clutch pedal, if the shifter isn't also tied directly to the transmission.

No worries. Maybe I misunderstood your comment about a proficient MT driver; he might own a PDK driver unless the PDK driver was equally proficient; then it would be a different story. Everything else you've said I understand completely.

Add a faux sequential box from the Motospost division and you win both battles.

Second in line for an RS at my dealership. I was told that the RS will have a manual option, if not only in manual.

I hope for your sake that's the case, but my bet is that the dealer is telling you what he thinks you want to hear. We don't even know for sure the complete spec of the GT3 yet; someone saying they know what the RS will be like is blowing smoke. Another thing; a PDK 991 GT3 is likely to give a MT 991 RS a real run for it's money. I don't think Porsche would offer a manual only RS and risk a small (if any) performance differential between the two models unless there's a big power difference, which hasn't been the case before. Great idea to put down a deposit, but too many uncertainties to have a real idea about what the car will be like. Just my $.02.

Was at the dealership today and drove a 991S with PDK and a Cayman R, again with PDK back to back and yes, the lack of steering feel in 991 was more concerning than the PDK. Not to derail the thread, but really hope 991 GT3 has better steering feel.

Sorry, thats an uneven test. Its their entry level package vs on that costs 40% more. The manual will be able to be lighter than pdk and the cup car front and much better balanced aero vs pretty much no aero balance on the black car make that test anything but fair. I would bet the white car has undertray too. And ballast added where needed for even better balance. Still only 1.5 seconds behind. There is probably a second or more in having balanced aero vs slapping a wing on the back at a track like monticello with lots of high speed turns.

And thats a long track to be 2:30 for those cars. Your average size track will see that gap close significantly.

Just pointing out the obvious. Yeah the pdk may still be faster, but those are not equally prepared cars. I would bet less than a half second for equally prepared cars with the manual lighter as it should be.
