Bought the parts from suncoast. Quick shipping, good seller. I think they may have left out the small rubber o-ring for the oil filter, so I left the old one in (it was in good shape).
24k service is something like this:
+ plugs (going to tackle this tomorrow)
+ oil filter / oil change
+ air filter
+ cabin filter
+ wiper blades and fluid
Parts...

Out with the old. What a mess. The lift, however, was a real back and time saver. Should have bought one sooner. Now I just need to sink it into the concrete.

I had the car lower when I first pulled the case plugs, but it comes out pretty good. No way around getting splashed. This might be a shock to you west coast folks, but this is dirt and grime. Come spring I'll get under there and power wash and degrease.

Cheap oil filter wrench that fit great. No need for the $40 porsche part. As others have mentioned, loosen the oil filter cap a bit before warming the car up and draining the oil. This allows most of the oil to drain from the filter with little clean-up. Plus it makes it much easier to unscrew the cap once the engine is to temp.

Old and busted...

...new hotness

Air filter housing out to do the filter swap.

I figured it wouldn't hurt to hit the throttle body with some carb cleaner.
![](http://www.squarewave.com/army/andrew/gt3/gt3_24k_service/24k_07.jpg)
Sprayed a little electronics cleaner on the MAF sensor as well.

The car took about 9.25 quarts of oil in the end. Manual says 9.25-9.5, but other DIYs have stated around 8 quarts. I really can't stand the electronic level oil gauge. I find it to be inaccurate and erratic. Sometimes I will get an oil level warning, usually after coming to rest at a stop light after normal driving. If I check it again in 2 minutes it shows full. Some days it shows low. At least now I know I'm starting with 9 quarts.
More to come tomorrow.

Here's a helpful thread on dimensions of this lift for that very purpose.
According to the bendpak site: Lowered height: 4-3/4"
Leave it to a the vette guys:

thx
that's a nice clean install
another q is that most slabs are 4", almost never more than 6"
if 3.5-4" is cut in, wouldn't the remaining 2" or so crack under wt?

...24k mile service for the GT3 part 2:
I loosely followed this write up for the spark plug change, but found slight differences in the 997 model.
tools I wound up using:
3/8 ratchet (prefered flex-head)
6" extension
spark plug socket
50mm torx (coil pack bolts)
8mm Socket (heat shield bolts)
magnetic pick-up tool (passenger side aft)
![](http://www.squarewave.com/army/andrew/gt3/gt3_24k_service/24k_10.jpg)
There seems to be more room on the 997. The drivers side was easier because the cat placement makes it a lot tighter on the passenger side (especially for the rear plug).
![](http://www.squarewave.com/army/andrew/gt3/gt3_24k_service/24k_11.jpg)
No blood yet.
![](http://www.squarewave.com/army/andrew/gt3/gt3_24k_service/24k_12.jpg)
Plugs are not too bad, but it was time.
![](http://www.squarewave.com/army/andrew/gt3/gt3_24k_service/24k_13.jpg)
I usually put a tiny bit of anti-seize on spark plug threads.
![](http://www.squarewave.com/army/andrew/gt3/gt3_24k_service/24k_14.jpg)
Thumbs up from the little boy.
![](http://www.squarewave.com/army/andrew/gt3/gt3_24k_service/24k_15.jpg)
Started right up. Cleared the service reminder with the durmetric. Now we just have to wait for all this damn snow to **** off!
