Hope I didn't scuttle mooty's deal in the making!
+1

But please allow me to put:

996 GT3 mk1; for keeping the 911 spirit alive and for pure driving awesomeness.

I believe it!

I took a perfectly good CLK 63 AMG BS and traded it in on a 2011 RS. I live in Chicago, the roads suck and we have LA-rivaling traffic. Why would anyone in their right mind get rid of a car like that when they don't need to? Because I was exposed to Mooty and his "sun is always shining-endless mountain roads-Real Estate is good business" witch craftery, that's why!

The man is dangerous. Do not let his rugged good looks fool you.

Best value - 996gt3
Best looking - .1 RS (subjective I know, but deep down we all know it )
Best performer - .2 RS
(None of the above have sunroofs)

If the choice is .1 RS at $90-100 vs .2 RS at $125-135 you are obviously looking at a spread of $35k roughly... Is a .2 RS worth $35k more TO YOU?

.2 RS
Pros - better aero, better gearing, more/better displacement, best of breed to date, possibly and most likely the last of the greats as we know them to date save for the 4.0, etc etc
Cons - centerlocks

Of course all the diffs suck and glued in fittings etc - but I am simply comparing them to each other and not scuderias :-)

.1RS was made in much lower #"s compared to .2RS so it may become more valuable in the long run.

If you have an extra $35k to spend then grab a .2RS. Do not worry about center locks.

If you are on a budget and you happen across a cherry "cant say no" .1RS for 85-90k then take it.

Either car is a great experience.

.2RS will throw down faster lap times, drive softer on the street and only take a little time to remove the aweful graphics....

As far as garage candy goes, orange or green RS.1 is a rubber neck favorite.

What he said If you can justify the extra $$ go .2 RS. If not it is like asking which one of the Cowboys cheerleaders you should go out with. You will not be unhappy with any of them. Get the one you REALLY want and don't look back. Or get one of each like some on this board have done.

If you want to have fun in a great car, get any GT: 996/997 RS or not, they are all great cars and will give you immense pleasure. If you want to have the fastest, wait for the 991
Sorry just saw that you already have a GT3, well then you should know the answer....

mooty,

If you really want a virgin 6gt3, i know someone that is leaving back to his come country(Japan) and will be selling his. He has never tracked it, hell i have rev it more then he ever has the handful of times i have driven it ...it has 20k miles... 100% stock, its a JEM. Even the side markers are stock. He offered it to me for a steal, i'm not sure how to hide it from the wife. he offered it for 50k to me. It is a 2005 or 2004, can't recall.

$35K goes a long way in upgrades... I'd start with Sharkwerks 3.9 and Exe-TC suspension.

At this point, I no longer have the 6GT3. I LOVED the way it drove, but was never a huge fan of the 996 looks-wise. I like the 997 look much more, and I especially like the wide body of the RS. I read the EVO mag again last night when they reviewed the 997.2 GT3. Makes me wonder if I "need" the RS after all...

.1RS vs .2GT3 - at roughly the same or similar cost

.1RS - its an RS, looks great, 5 lug, widebody, etc
.2GT3 - increased displacement/more power, newer, etc
neither have sunroof and one has centerlocks (which would factory into my decision if I planned on keeping them due to the lastet time out bulletin etc)
both have same gearing which is too tall for track work IMHO
both need diffs and fittings fixed
In this cmparison, I would go with the best deal I found UNLESS I had to have an RS (and I would ditch the centerlocks)

somewhat of a toss up
