Some other top tips.

The best way to release grip and get the back moving (slow speed start). full lock clutch fuly out and car just moving, stomp on the throttle. This is better for the clutch, gear box and drive shafts!

As the rear releases its grip and starts to move let the steering wheel run free until you get the angle required then little touchs to direct your car where you require.

Once sliding keep blipping the throttle... big prod's, more 'on time' and deeper into carpet= Bigger angle... lesser angle= smaller blips but keep the loud pedal moving up and down at all times... more control then on a steady state throttle while you are learning.

Practice figure of 8's and donuts then add more cones/markers and start doing bigger circles. This will build up your skills safely.

The big one is learning transition sliding from one direction to another.

Good luck...

Jay

Well I am a lowly M3 driver, so I can't really comment (though oppo is very easy in the M3). However, this video is full of oppo **** and may provide some inspiration.

This may also help:

Indeed, best to replace coolant hoses before you start drifting...;-)

one of my favorite (buttclencher) drifting spots in the country is the kink at Road America.
I am the white car in front of the camera (Jenk's) car:

Due to my Asian side, I have to bring up Best Motoring's Drift Bible by the "Drift King" Keiichi Tsuchiya. Great video on physics/explanations. (Best Motoring is Japan's version of Top Gear / Chris Harris, but very focused on driving and competition against other classes.) This video is dubbed in English.

TRAKCAR - forgot to send you this link. This is where I started learning heal-toe. Watching these guys well before I could drive was inspirational.

Hi. Here is a little footage of my 996 GT2 from a mates 997.2 GT3 at a social track day recently. My car is the silver one that comes through approx 2min 15s in, that then paints the road with 320 mm wide slicks having some fun. Its not setup or really used as a track car, it is a nice weekend toy, but it still goes rather well. Fun to slide.

Wow guys, way to go. Thanks for all these videos, . I have been experimenting myself and it looks like the key is in managing the throttle while cornering. I know easier said than done (boy do I know) but very difficult to explain, you just do it when you do it and then it just comes naturally. Next up is sliding with the wheel turned in the direction of spin but that requires a bit more speed than I am comfortable with for now. Will keep trying.

Balding rear tires, plus OSG Diff, plus some car control = GT3 sideways

Good tyres are hard to start a slide but easier to control.

m5trol,

Set the GoPro up for steering wheel action.

Cheers
Jay
