GT3 Alternative - BAC Mono - NSFW
So my future 4.0 replacement is not street legal in the US. Comes in as a "semi-knockdown kit" and Sector111 (Lotus tweakers and Atom sellers) builds the car in their shop. It seems straightforward enough to make it street legal here in NV, but my opinion is that would a suicidal move. I'd be run over on the street for sure. Not to mention the attention it would draw would make it a miserable experience.
However as a track tool, a compelling case for the Mono can be made. I was wholly and totally smitten upon reading the specs and seeing pictures of the naughty underparts. It is a very special car.
One of the two brothers who developed the car has done contract development work for Porsche. Read into that what you will.
Here is the main website: http://us.bac-mono.com/index.php
And a little forum I started: Monomanic.com
And the US Importers site: http://sector111cars.com/
Cost per hour to track it should be approx 1/3 that of a GT3 and lap times will be considerably quicker than that of a Porsche Cup car. A perfectly intense driving experience with dirt cheap (relatively) maintenance and running costs.
Everyone has their own preference as to what they want in a car. My Cayenne is wunder-fab for any street driving I do now. It's perfect in nearly every way. But for me the 4.0 is compromised for the street (frikken gawkers) and the track (too soft and too expensive to properly maintain). The Mono will feed me everything I crave while being cheap to run. A no-brainer.

Not yet, I have to have something to drive for the Oct 26-28 Trackrat High-Desert Trackdays! After that, it would make sense to sell it.
Mono build/delivery is not anticipated until approx Feb 2013, 6 months away.
Call Shinoo now...tell him I sent you...beg him to take your deposit. Someone will buy allocation 12 in the next day or two. Hopefully it is someone who will track the damn thing!

Someone I know bought an Atom because the Lotus is a POS. When you crash a Lotus, cost of rebuild is the price of the car. Atom was ok, but then he decided to build his own car. They have build seven or more so far. Car is not bad, but of course not as nice as this one.

So why do you buy that track only toy (as beautiful as it is) over something like say, a Stohr WF1 with motorcycle power? The WF1 will be as quick and EXPONENTIALLY cheaper to run than either the Mono or the cup car.

Because the Mono seems to be build for DE. Easy to drive, drop dead gorgeous and not rough and tumble cheap just to be cheap and feel like a race car. We want to feel like race car drivers, we don't want our cars to feel like race cars.

with any car like this one first question i think of - whom will you run with? such a car is still much faster than any p-car or any non-open wheeler.
like, with ariel atom cars there are some number of them now so folks will group together, SRF cars have a group, etc.
this car in DE format may be like a sp300r caterham that runs with street gt3 cars - you will be stuck behind traffic most of the time, don't you afraid of this?
