Cool stuff! Now we need an aerodynamicist to explain what all that means...

There is a great article posted in the cup forum, by RLer Cory M, from Racecar Engineering magazine regarding an aero tunnel test with an RSR car. Very interesting findings. I posted this before but it's must read.

I'm not an aerodynamicist but I have been involved in a number of wind tunnel tests, mostly at Ingolstadt and Hinwil. See -

With a static floor and wheels and without any computational analysis this test could only deliver the crudest suggestions as to what might be improved. However, towards the end we did get a hint of why the wing mirrors are shaped as they are. What happens under the car is vitally important. You don't learn a lot in this respect without a moving floor.

Very cool, and interesting to note that the wing tip vorices are reverse the direction of those from an aircraft wing (normal since low pressure is on the bottom of the cup car wing). Next time you are at an airport and it's damp of foggy, you will see these vortices at the wing tips of landing aircraft.

Since it goes with the topic...

I actually was looking for a second opinion on the data contained in that link and Crawford was nice enough to point out some very important issues. 1) Not a rolling road. 2) Ride heights seem wonky.

Looking for WC 996 Cup aero numbers! Yeah yeah yeah, I know, keep dreaming.
