OEM lithium battery
My new to me 24 month old 2010 GT3RS came with a lithium lightweight OEM battery and I was thinking of selling it, but I am not sure if it is any good still.
Don't really feel like bolting it into my car to see if it starts every morning to drive to work and I don't trust lithium batteries anyway as I know lithium batteries in general are hazardoes materials when transported and can catch on fire and it is just not worth it to me to have it parked every night in my house:
http://www.bloomberg.com/news/2011-1...ther-year.html
In the manual it also says it is not recommended to use this battery for daily driving in 40c, 104F weather and if the battery goes completely dead, it can result in damage. So to me it seems too hot in the summer to use it and at 250+lb in person, I doubt a lightweight battery will do me much good on track.
Since my car had the alternator replaced at 800 miles and the car only drove 800 miles in 24 months I am sure it has been dead before, even though the previous owner had a trickle charger.
Do I worry about it too much and just drive it?
Anyone know how these things really work?
How can I check if it is any good and is it worth anything to anyone?
When I put it on the charger it charges to 12V, but when I check the charge a couple of days later, it shows only 10V. No good?
It is on the charger now and I will check again in the morning.

Just buy this Braille and call it a day. I use this in my M3, and it's been fantastic for 3 years now. Less than half the weight of a normal battery. I just keep it on a trickle charger if I know I won't be driving it for extended periods. Works in any condition.

Peter, I have been using the OEM Porsche battery for 10 months now (I switch it between the Fiat and Coxster).
My experience is that when it goes low, it starts beeping, if you ignore the beep it will go dead, but it still keeps a charge to avoid damage. A regular battery charger can damage it, based on info from LithiumPros the other Li-Ion battery I have (originally bought it for the Fiat). I charge it both with a Battery Tender, and they work fine, it takes 2 days to charge using my battery Tender (the popular Deltran unit I have used since 2004).
It should hold the charge for weeks. As an example, I left it in the Coxster for 3 weeks, no battery tender connected, just a few weeks ago, and no beeping yet, car starts just fine, and the parasitic loads are still there.
It seems like your Li-Ion battery is dead.

Does Porsche offer a longer warranty on the Lithium Batteries considering their cost? It might be worth asking.

Any other way to check it?
How low can a battery go before it wont crank the car?
Hmm, I may have to try it, I had not had it installed in my car yet. I have heard about them catching on fire. Overrated?
