Default Are 2007/2008 GT3s overpriced?

I've been doing a lot of research into trying to figure out what year GT3 I should buy. I NEED PSM so 996 is out, but when I look at current prices I'm coming up with the following scale.

2004 50
2005 52
2006 --
2007 75
2008 76
2009 X
2010 100
2011 110
2012 115

Leaving Cost of capital out of the equation.
Trying to figure out what car would cost less for 3 years, it almost looks like a 2012 may depreciate as much as a 2007. Then again I know the 991 GT3 may be here in a year and who knows what will happen. I imagine everyone that always gets the latest and greatest GT3 will dump their 2010-2012
Are GT3 prices artificially high due to the lack of a current GT3?
Are the 2007/2008 overpriced relatively speaking? (Compared to 2010 prices)
Question: Where do you think the following cars will be selling for in 3 years:
  • 2005 GT3
  • 2007 GT3
  • 2010 GT3
  • 2010 GT3

05 same
07 less 5k, they did not go down last 24 months.
10 less 15k

Flame suit on. But.. There are only so many real gt3's... The next on might be a dressed up c2 for $125k as your only new alternative?

RS won't go down from here till 2015.

I just love the "what will these cars be worth in X years" threads.

Note that the 2007-08 cars do not have PSM, if that is a key factor for you. Traction control only, limited to rear wheels.

In shopping for an 07-08 RS. I agree they are a tad high. I chalk it up to the "season" right now as I'm seeing few that are less than $100k. I think $90k is a fair price for a stockish no stories car.

BTW Dell I love the quote. Words I live by.

People who try to rationalize cars as some sort an investment strategy make me chuckle. With VERY few exceptions they are simply depreciating assets no matter how you slice or dice it.

Life is short, buckle up and enjoy the ride... before wants and desires become regrets!!
I do!!

+1 on Dell's quote!!

I guess it depends - if you are buying, they are priced too high. If you are selling, they are priced too low.

And, if someone is buying them, the price must be right.

07-08 GT3 price is lingering a fair zone considering the incremental changes throughout the 997 tub generation.
Once 991 GT3 is released then the prices should fall to where 996GT3 market currently sits and the 996GT3 market will drop slightly lower as result.

07-08 is a nice porsche for 70k, even better if in the 60k range.
They look fairly current which is a bonus and the tub/suspension pick up points are the same as the outgoing 2011GT3 which makes handling/modifying on a even level with cars 3-4 years newer and 30-40k more money.

one should not over look a 2007-2008GT3.

Soon in time, 2007-2008GT3 prices will be low enough to make them great stripper cars in which all the 997 Cup parts and wheels can be installed on em' for a great D.E toy.
(should be be lots of nice narrow body cup spares going around by then from scuttled/retired 997 cups...)

Old blue eyes nailed that quote! It's why I have to work out 6-7 days a week. A man has to have his vodka

The market is inflated by lack of supply, time of year and volatility due to lack of information on the new GT3. If the new GT3 is announced with both manual and PDK the market will break. If you want one right now from a Porsche dealer, an 07 is 85k and a 10 is 100k. Take a look at the offer prices at LA Auto Gallery. A 997.1 for 100k. A 997.1 RS for 115 that didn't sell for 95 in Colorado and they bought at auction. There was a 997.1 in Cleveland I bid 85 on and they weren't interested.
