Help installing an OEM 997 Short Shift (SSK) please
Hi there
Got a Porsche short shifter for my car, got all the console out and am at the phase of removing the old shifter.
But don't want to proceed any further as am a little unsure of what to do with the cables or what the best method is so I don't mess up my cars ability to get into gear.
Here is a photo of where I am at now:-
Is there an easy way from removing the cables so it prevents need for adjustment when installing into the new shifter? Or any tips in general please?

There is a plastic bridge (a shifter specific plastic tool that clips on top of the shifter), that comes with every new shifter. It locks the shifter in neutral so that you can fit the cables. Do you have it?

no tool is required.
just use permanent marker to mark the silver shafts at their insertion depths..relative to the blue and black collars... that is it...
When you push back the spring(s), you'll see that the cable has a screw-like end that slots into corresponding gaps in the blue (and black) linkages.. You mark the cables so that you insert them to the same depth as before..

That plastic thingy makes it easier to keep stick in neutral but u don't need it. Like above said mark the cable- it works. By the way when u mentioned ssk what car u have? If its a gt3 and that ssk is actually those b&m ones but with Porsche logo(30 % reduction I believe)- u gonna hate it. Now non-gt3 it was a great upgrade. I had a '99 996- loved it- like a rifle bolt. On a gt3 it's like a rifle bolt thats jammed. Mike
