Same thing here. If you take a look at the pads versus the cotter pin you will see where the noise is coming from. The hole in the pads that the pin goes through is larger than the pin. When you get on the brakes, if the pads have a gap between the pad and pin, it (the pad) will "clunk" against the pin. Totally normal. The spring clip has nothing to do with the regulation of that sound. The spring clip keeps the pads from moving laterally not fore/aft.
