Even better Speedcom in Port Orange, FL. Local and shows up at major events in FL.

IMHO you want the 16 channel setup and IMSA headset adaptor plug. You can also get an IMSA to Chatterbox patch cable.

I just sit back patiently waiting for one of you maniacs to lose it and join the 360 club. You can only get away with just "mowing" the lawn for so long. Tortoise and the hare. I'll be sure have some colorful commentary over the comm system when I eventually pass by

Here's the reply I got this morning from the link I posted:

all depends on price....

So to talk from car to car you will need the same as in the normal car/crew package you just don't need the crew.

For the car, and for large tracks, and everyone on the same frequency, and still have the possibilty to to have a seperate private channel, and have a MaX range all with cost in mind the radio that should be chose is the Vertex VX230. It has 5Watt, UHF freq450-470Mhz), 16 channels, and Vertex is Owned by Motorola.
each car/driver will need:
1 Car radio VX230 UHF radio
1 Car radio mount box
1 Car antenna with adapter
1 Car radio wiring harness
1 Ptt for steering wheel
1 Driver Flex boom microphone kit
1 Driver foam earpeices

a complete kit like this is prices out to $693 but if you by as a group and purcahase 5 kits at one time the price would go down to $600 per kit

thanks

Looks reasonable.

Thats not that bad. Probably you and I, along with Randy will be the guinea pigs. Then everyone will see how awesome it is, and will jump on the bandwagon.

Dawg

Ping Speedcom with the same request. The nice thing about local is they can do the helmet wiring which can be something of a PITA. No affiliation.

Looks good at a good $$. Check to see that these can work for crew radios too so that handhelds can be added. You'll want to have them work as race radios someday perhaps.

Little late to the party but I have used both a racing radio setup and the ChatterBox originally talked about. Here are the pros and cons of each as I have seen them.

Racing Radio from Vertex or Motorola

Pros
Great system
Permanently wired helmet with mic
Can be hardwired into car
PTT
Frequencies need to programmed in

Cons
Foam earbuds suck and blow often
hardwired into car
external antenna requires hole drilled
battery life and charger needed at the track
once installed can only be used in car

Chatterbox

Pros
Small unit
Temporary or permanent install
Other uses (motorcycles, quads, etc)
intercom type with PTT optional
USB Charger
Preset Frequencies
8 hour + battery life
can be used for students

Cons
Mount on helmet or buy extension cables
Can't be used for racing in future
ear pieces can be a pain
hard to switch channels when mounted on side of helmet

I used to own a Chatterbox X1 when I had motorcycles and friends who rode. We used them all the time while riding and they worked great even in the mtns of N Georgia. Downside to the Chatterbox is the intercom system mic sometimes was a little difficult to pick up your voice so you would have to do something to get it to trigger and then talk.

For what you guys are doing I would look into the Chatterbox unless you plan on buying a racecar in the future.

Seth,

Great info. Thanks for the recommendation. Sounds like Chatterbox is a better option. Not to excited about drilling a hole for the antenna....

You don't have to drill a hole for the antenna. There are options. Such as this- flexible internal antenna.

That is awesome. First time I have seen one of those. Rules out the con of drilling a hole for the antenna. Wonder how the reception is using this one?

I expect nothing but the best from you GT3 DE Cup Baller Boys....I'm on the outside of the window looking in with my nice pressed hard on it.

While you guys are drilling holes for antennas and hardwiring stuff you might as well pull the carpet up and take more weight out and go faster. Fallow Izzones path and do the full cage while your at it....I like you all and don't want to lose any friends out there....yes I like you all even though you ditched me for lunch..LOL... It's not like you all drive your wives to dinner in these cars.

My only concern with chatter box would be wind noise when the visor was up and the windows were down, as well as the range. I don't ride motorcycles anymore so it's been a while since I've used any products like that.
