I haven't seen "great deals" on 997 GT2 since mid 2011. Mine wasn't a great deal, it was fair- I paid a little bit over a "great deal" for color after looking 6 months.
I think the GT2/RS will be the more "collectible" of 997 street cars in the long run, even if no 997 will appreciate long term. Probably less than 200 GT2's left in the US, and all of, what a couple hundred RS's? Only NA 997 car to match that rarity is the 4.0l. If you are like me, you want something a little different from the regular ones, the 4.0l and the GT2/RS are the only ones that fit the bill. In comparison, Scuds are a dime a dozen with over 2000 units supposedly produced if including the 16M.
FYI some '08 GT2s didn't get sold until '09 like mine- warranty thus until 2013, plus with the Champion Motorsport warranty blanket coverage on all items they install, I sleep peacefully...

Mooty, dont listen to this crowd,
Sell RS to Reter. $220k will close the deal and you don't lose money.
Buy 996 GT3 Cup and 991S (both white). Keep $50k in your pockets, burn them in Las Vegas.

I'm glad you are happy with your GT2, but I do not agree with your comments.
All .1 and .2 GT3/RS are collectable. I personally never have any interest to buy a GT2, even if it cost less than my 3.8RS.
Also, I never have any interest to buy a cup car. I enjoy driving to the track.

^by means of "collectable", I mean people will shop for and buy them, but not in terms of holding values.
None of the 997 variants will hold values enough to claim true collector status. Don't expect to make money on them. They are all mass produced.

Non limited production Porsches are not long run premium collectibles, in my opinion. The regular GT3 and GT3 RS were only limited to the number they could sell with production in the thousands. Some model years supposedly had higher RS units than regular GT3 units.
You may disagree with me but rarity does factor into value. None of these modern Porsches are going to go up in value, but the rare ones will retain it better over the long run. GT3/RS values will plummet once the 991 GT3/RS is introduced and is shown to be superior (Porsche hasn't disappointed before). Just the nature of the beast. If we went by your definition Honda S2000s are "collectables" too, but the reality is, is they are not.

I just had this vision. I should buy a Cup tub, set it up in my living room, add all the Playstation stuff to it so I can play Playstation online with Rad. I think I can do 2.08 at Sebring on slicks!

If you believe in history, then look at 996GT2. It depreciates much worse than 996GT3.

dave was a stellar buyer and offered me a fair market price at the time.. just so happens fair market price at the time is still the fair market price...
I buy real estate/stock/cars the same way -- high and sell low, rinse wash repeat...![Wink](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/wink.gif)
all is well... I got to "meet" dave and picked up an RS and modded it to perfection. I cannot complain.

Great advice. Basically you have about a 6 month to 1 year window on a GT3RS 4.0. The 991 Carrera S has the same ring time as a GT3. A 991 GT3RS will be faster than a 4.0 and probably have the raw feel as well. My guess is 150 to 160 in a year.
