Nice, one less item, so less weight. Out the door !!!
Same thing that Progressive insurance tried to bone me with... a data reader from the OBD2.
I should install that and bring the car to the track and tell them how I drive.

MTF ... F you

So the box is mandated BUT who owns the info it collects or better yet, who is permitted to gain access to the data? What is the expectation of privacy of the information?

The proposed Law is incomplete, they need to add that it is a Federal offense to tamper, modify, alter, remove the black box, and impose a $2,500,000 fine, driver's license suspension for 10 years, and prison for a minimum of 2 years with no chances for house arrest.

Well, either pre 2015 cars will be the car to buy and drive untill the wheels come off. or we all get track dedicated cars, oh better idea. Don't vote for a democrat! Like EVER!!!

I'm not a democrat and 100% opposed to this but isn't the house (where the bill is headed now and expected to pass) republican majority right now?

The problem isn't Democrat vs. Republican, the problem is corporatist legislators of BOTH parties who are in the pocket of the lobbyists - in this case, the insurance lobby. Need to ban any contributions by lobbyists or PACs to sitting legislators, or to candidates!

the data is yours so it will take a warrant. at least the Senate version.

Not my understanding, looks quite a bit hazier than that.

1. Car is in a crash or crime, you get out and leave the door open or unlocked, cops can "look around inside."

2. Cops have reasonable cause for a search (crash or crime) and gain access.

3. You prevent all of the above at the scene, but getting a warrant for that information—like your phone records—will be a piece of cake.

Question is whether there will be a way for owners to remove or disable it, and how this fits in with Fifth Amendment rights regarding your own property. My guess is, it won't, since your personal property can be used as evidence against you in other situations.

"Land of the free, home of the brave" seems less and less a reality...and I agree that it is corporations and paid-for legislators who are visiting these intrusions upon us. Wonder if there is an exception or immunity for sitting leaders and legislators?
