Everybody should buy the 997 Carrera S or the still affordable 991 Carrera S, even a Cayman fits the bill.

"A GT3 RS 4.0 is a car looking for a place to light. It's not a race car, it's not a great street car, its really a poser. IMHO."

Everyone should buy whatever turns them on but not dismiss other choices.

Scud > GT3RS > GT3 > F430

I wrote a comparison of the 997.1 GT3 vs. F430 both on track and in street driving. The above summarizes the comparison and yes, Rad is right that the Scud is a very serious and reliable machine. Drive one before making up your mind; I'm a diehard Porsche fan, but I'd take a Scud any day.

Stock cars, I think...

Carrera GT > GT2RS > 599 GTO > 4.0 RS > Scuderia > 3.8 RS > 599 GTB HGTE > 458 > 7GT2 > 599 GTB > 7.2 GT3 > 6 GT2 > 7.1 GT3 RS > 7.1 GT3 > 360 CS > F430 > 6GT3 > 360 Modena > Cayman

Interesting comparo. Clash of the titans. and cayman. I would put the 458 a bit further ahead, as well as the GT2RS. I think it outlaps a CGT... (it did at the ring)

Thanks.

Yeah, sold the then GT3 then bought a beach house that I've enjoyed with family and friends. It was the 'right' thing to do at the time.

But I'm ready to be a bit more selfish now.

Wife leans toward the Fiat though; she thinks they are hot and she loved the 360.

Rad, what's a stock Scud like on the street? Compared to a 997 GT3?

The order of the list is based on your preference on these cars or their performance around the track?

Okay. For you. But I say Real Men load up a Hot Blonde on the back of their Adventure and ride off into the sunset.

And if the blonde isn't available, I have a KTM 525 which is to the Super Enduro like a Radical is to a Scud. Or something like that ... thinking about the girl has temporarily rearranged my priorities and made it hard to concentrate...

Hey now, that is a far too reasonable attitude totally unsuited to the internet. What the world needs are more people standing atop the mountain spewing unassailable Truths to the eager and grateful throng of unworthy minions below. How else would they know what to think? If everyone had your attitude, sales of those high-class decals showing a cute character urinating on another brand of truck would plummet. Then where would the world be?

To the OP,

I had a '06 F430 since new and sold it with 21k miles and now a member here owns it. It's a six speed manual and with over 25k miles still has the original clutch. The headers were changed at 10k miles and then again at 25k plus thousand miles. The brackets were changed two times at very low miles, but those have been good until now. The car was my daily driver, but I don't commute to work. It was 100% reliable with zero issues, I drove it a few times on long road trips, and did I mention 100% reliable. The best deal in Ferrari land is an early three pedal F430 and unless you think it mandatory avoid the carbon ceramics unless you're comfortable changing those for big money. The car was never tracked.

A few points, all IMHO of course:

All Ferraris should be red

For those that say an F430 drives like crap, maybe you were driving a Fiero kit car.

The F430 is very reliable, but just like any other car, **** happens, and when it does, be prepared to lighten your wallet by a lot. I disagree with a post above about reliability. A garage queen is LESS likely to be reliable than one that is driven often and has the bugs ironed out.

Lastly, the sound of an F430 blipping the throttle during a downshift alone is worth the purchase price.
