I have a 2011 GT3 and yes I would love an RS for the track (have more than 30 t-days in one year on my GT3) but I believe it makes no sense to switch now. All you're going to get is a little over a hundred large ones for your "lowly GT3" (I had to quote mdrums...:-) and trade in for a lot of unknowns on a "new" used RS. Just not worth it. The new 991S (with a few mods) already kicks the GT3's butt (also costs as much...) and is in torque (straight-line performance) pretty close to the RS. I believe the 991 has actually more torque than a GT3. I believe that once my warranty runs out in 2014 -and if I don't get tempted by the 662HP GT500 :-) no flames please- it'll be a 991 GT version IF it has at least 4 liters and at least 500HP because there's just no substitute for power:-).

There are so many variables, Northvan. And yes it hurts to have one of those haloed GT3's and be outdone (at least in numbers 317ft-lbs of torque for GT3 vs 325 for the 991S) by a "newer" version. Tell me about it...:-) It's called progression... I chased a 991S PDK at Laguna Seca the other day and yes I was faster in the straights but not necessarily in the turns. And this was a driver that had owned a GT3RS (seriously) but wanted (his wife:-) a more "relaxed" car. We might have for Peter (trakcar) to drive a "lowly" and UNMOGT3 and a 991S PDK and report back. All I was trying to communicate to kyrocks was that trading up from a 7.2 GT3 to a 7.2 GT3RS right now doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me. If one wants an RS real bad, why not get the real deal (a lot cheaper, too) and get a 7.1RS, drive it for a couple of years and then trade up to a 991.2RS.

Since you already have a great car, i would not get a 3.8 RS. Wait and find a 4.0 or wait longer and get the 991 RS.
I am still freakishly in love with my 3.8, but I didn't have a GT3 when I bought it.
It just seems like a huge waste of money to go from a 997 GT3 to a 997 3.8, which is quickly becoming old news.

I can't resist :-):-) but one more "free" piece of advice for kyrocks (hey, you asked for it...). STAY AWAY from this board It's an "RS-BOARD" and anybody with a "lowly" GT3 -which is inferior to an RS - is simply tolerated here. And the disease of wanting an RS is infectious. Rest assured, once you're cured, i.e. having not visited this board for at least 1 week will make you love your"lowly" GT3 again.

The GMG car at Parkplace looks great and it will be a lot of fun, but only you can decide if the price differential is worth the swap. It's cheaper to keep 'er applies here, but if you want the 4.0, it will continue to be on your mind. At this point, it might be wise to wait for 991 gt3 deliveries to shake people out of their 4.0's. Either way, I'll be interested to see what you bring to the next track event.
I see Parkplace has a like new GT2RS, maybe that will cure your 4.0-itis.

Estimate the delta btwn your car and the 3.8 you will buy. Take half that and dump it into your gt3 - pimp it out for track duty more than it already is. Drive it for a year maybe two. Then upgrade.
It is just lust. You want the next best thing. But seriously - i know i am not outdriving my car and you have probably not outgrown yours.

It's funny...everything you guys are saying (both pro and con) I have thought about.
Yes, I want an RS. I am at a different stage in life now than I was when I bought the GT3. Horstair, RL or not, I want an RS and I talked myself out of it a couple years ago. Am I bored with the GT3? nope. Am I slow in the GT3? Depends who you ask. You guys are right - I need to decide of the delta in price is really worth it.
When I drove the GMG GT3 RS, it was just so right. The best decision financially is to hold on to my GT3 and mod a little here and there, no doubt. Ask me in 5 minutes, my mind may change again!!
This is fun by the way. Keep the comments coming. I don't know what I'll do.

Kyrocks, isn't this what we're living for? Having choices is what's it all about. I want an RS so bad BUT I'm holding out for two reasons: (1) the financial delta (but to be honest really not that relevant and (2) the FEAR of Porsche "laying an egg" in the near future (at a price!!!) that might me regret this transaction. I also like "new" with the warranty that comes with it (just spent, i.e. Porsche did, $2000 on some stupid coolant valve malfunction) and I am simply not comfortable with a car that someone else "molested" before me...

he's a LS expert and hell of a driver.
it's very hard to compare lap times.
you need consistent drivers who are driving the cars minutes apart.
