Default Harness WTF

I was groping through Max Power's GT3 RS Registry this morning and stumbled across a real head-scratcher. I don't even want to think about what would happen in a crash.

Anyone know this car?

Looks like it might be setup for both 6-point harness & OEM 3-point. You can see the 3-point buckle on the passenger side. My guess is when using the 3-point, they buckle the anti-sub and lap belts (using the shoulder belts holes in the camlock) together as shown, and sit on them. The 6-point shoulder belts are likely sitting on the floor behind the seat; would be brought up over the rollbar and through the seat holes when needed.

Exactly!

I've seen a number of dual setups like this while instructing at track events.

One buckles the OEM belts and sits on them while using the 6-point harness to engage the HANS device on track. If one does not buckle the OEM belts, the seat belt warning is a continuing distraction on the instrument cluster while on track!

They can program that off with PIWIS.

Speaking from experience ...nothing happens in a crash, you unbuckle and step out of the car....oh and you will have to replace the 3 point belt ...not the Schroth

Sitting on those belts isn't it kinda uncomfortable? I just have cam buckle hang and lap belts feeded out thru the holes when I'm not using them. Mike

Sounds like a huge hassle re-threading the submarine belt up through the seat, but I see what you're saying. I just flip the cam lock forward and it bops around between my legs when I'm using the three point belt.

I pulled the seat cushion and ran the sub under that to hang over the front of the seat, then replaced the cushion ... you hardly know that the buckle is there!

I cut the buckles out of an Audi at the junk yard. They were $1.50 each.

Works like a champ. You only need to stick it in the drivers side and it turns the warning off for the passenger as well.

Question: What about the OEM 3 point anchor point? Is it better bolted on the seat, or on the floor?
Currently I have the 6-pt bolted on the seat and OEM on the floor. Also, I have the OEM over the seat bolster, and not through the side hole. Thanks for the input.

door side the OEM 3-pt is bolted to the chassis, you can piggyback the 6-pt lap belt to the same location, perhaps using clips if permitted by the orgs you track with. As for the transmission tunnel side I have always attached the OEM and 6 pt lap to the seat, which helps the 6pt if you move the seat back/fwd that does not effect the lap belt setting.

much depends upon the rules and regs for the organisations you track with, some disallow mounting to the seat, using clip-on attachments, or bolting to the floor without reinforcements

I believe that Porsche recommends that both the 3pt and the 6-pt lap belt are routed through the holes. Having said that, I personally prefer the 3pt to be routed "normally" (outside the holes)
