Default Torin Big Red Aluminum Racing Jack - Pep Boys

Anyone use this jack? Seems I see them all over the paddock. Bought one on a whim at pep boys. ~$130.

Compared to my massive steel home jack, it seems rickety and flimsy and hard to pump. Please advise if this thing is a POS before I drop my car!

Been using 1 for over 3 years with no problems As always use Jack Stands when on a Jack.

Nothing like a $130 jack under a $130k car.

I also take my steel jack to the track and it is heavy. So heavy.

I think I may take this new jack back to pep boys - I am scared to death to use it - and continue the search for a good light wt jack.

Paver -

That is my leading contender for a lightweight track jack

I also know it to work with jack point jackstands iirc

+1

But those who can literally afford any jack on the planet choose the Litening Jack. $599 but worth every penny.

here are the real ones you are looking for (by Pace and Brunnhoelzl). Heavy duty, light weight. I had a Pace when I raced in NASCAR.

I used a Torin for years with no issues. A seal finally went after 5 years and it leaked fluid so I replaced it with the Craftsman racing jack.

I bought one of these. I don't recommend it unless you just want to get one wheel at time up just high enough to pull the wheel off. If that's all you need it's probably ok. But I don't think it's really stout enough to jack high enough to put an Esco jack stand under the car.

I have only used it 6 or 7 times and a snap ring has already fallen off it from somewhere, the front roller doesn't roll much any more, and I have seen it distort when lifting from the front jackpoint.

Maybe it's a Pep Boys in disguise :-(
