If these are street tires and your new to the track...1 year or under and in the instructed group.....stay with stock or close in sizes and use the new Michelin Super Sports or a tire like that.

If you are now in the solo run group and looking for track wheels and sticky tires you can experiement with what 997gt3north has posted but you will not find his recomended 255 size in a r-compound tire and I'm not sure myself if you can get 265's in your fenders without some suspension magic....so 245's should work. This all depends on the offset of these 9.5" wide wheels and on a GT3 without fender extensions like the RS version has I'm really curious to find out how this all fits. However making these into a 9x19 with an offset (euro spec) of et50-53 is cheap and simple.

These are street tires. I'll be new to the track so I'd like for these to pull double duty for a little while while I get acquainted with the car and the track. I'll look into advancing a little later.

I just need to get these refurbished POS stockers off the car. They have been repainted and curb rash repaired. I don't know the trueness of the wheels and just want to start fresh with a new set of wheels. I can't do anything till I get the car dialed in.

I appreciate all the input from the members. I'm very familiar with wheel sizing, offsets, tire sizing and the like so I can digest anything you guys throw my way.

I'll keep reading but I'm not going to post until I receive the wheels on Tuesday. I'll measure and get back to you guys with et's.

Thanks,

Ed

If the rim offset is correct, the wheel will fit - whether it is the 245, 255, or 265.

Given everything you have written so far, I would recommend the 255.

Thanks Paul,
I value your input and feel like you've been through the process many times. I will look into a stuffing a 255 under the well.

Ed...ok...If this was me I'd go with the Michelin Super Sports for a everyday street tire and starting out with DE's. A extreme summer street tire will be safer and give you better feedback than a r-compound will. Starting out you will never even get close to using the benefits of a r-compound.....so the new MPSS will be great...Deputy Dog did a DE on these and they worked well...also NJ-GT does de's at times on the Bridgestone RE11 and I see them a lot at the track.

ok, wheels arrived today. It appears that they are 9" and 12" and not 9.5" and 12" like I had previously been informed.

This being the case, should I still shod the front wheel with a 245?

I'll get some pics up in a bit. I just want to research the part numbers to see what I got.

yes 245/35/19 and 305/30/19 Michelin Super Sports....good for the street and beginning DE's.

I would do the following.

- mount a front wheel without tire and see what it looks like
- put some wood boards underneath as a pretend tire so wheel pushes up into place so you can see how it fits with non-rotated strut
- if it is an agressive offset, the 235/35/19 is your best choice as you can hopefully get away without rotating the strut
- if it looks non aggressive, then maybe 245
- if you conclude you are going to have to or want to rotate the strut, then I would go 265/35/19 since it is a 9 not 9.5
- I personally think rotated strut with 265 front is a great setup if the offset is good

I measured the offset at a +50. Backspacing is 7" - 4.5"(halfway mark) - .5" (lip) = 2" = 50.8 mm.

Will a 245 fit with a +50?

Rear Wheel stickers.

as far as offset and width, your taking .5" off each side to account for the bead/lip right? i.e. your 9.5" wheel should be 10.5' wide... measure the backspacing and deduct .5" before factoring centerline and offset difference from centerline.

^^Found out that the wheels are 9's and not 9'5's. I think the seller saw the 9.5" written on the inside inner rim of the rear 12" wheel and thought they were the fronts. Whatever the case is, I am happy that they are the 9's.

Oh, and yes, I do take into account 1/2" lips when measuring.

I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Well, it looks like it'll be a few weeks till I get the wheels back together. I am having the centers stripped and gold anodized and the outers polished. It should be a nice and different approach to the BBS gold as theirs are painted and clear coated.

Aren't the rivets one time use only? Plus does bbs ok anodizing? Curious esp regarding safety for track use. They look very racey!

The bolts can be used over but BBS Eric at BBS says since they are so cheap, just install new ones. He also said that it's ok to anodize the wheel.
