I assume that will be the case. I know if I could ever afford one it would have to manual unless I had a whole stable of manuals that weren't being parted with all ready.

I bet more than 80% of rennlist GT3 forum members who are serious about buying a 991 GT3 will choose PDK even if it's an option. I'm not a huge fan of "flappy paddle gearboxes", but I'm even less of a fan of having to point by every "flappy paddle gearbox" GT3 on the track... and it would make driving the GT3 on the street 100x better.

I do not agree, most will chose a manuel, most rarely even drive them on the street!
Not likely I will get one if PDK only.

I think the guys who want to have lower laptimes will go for the Turbo with PDK.

Your probably right. I'd also have to add that they probably have quite large disposable incomes, lease or buy the car knowing it will be just a few months to couple years max of ownership and get tire of cars quickly. It seems there are more people who buy for the short term then for the long term. I don't know but the GTR is a better car for the short term but the GT3 is much better car 10 years down the road.
Then you'll have the small percentage that want to drive raw with no nannies or aids and enjoy working on them and doing everything them selves with no assists. I think we still want to drive current cars old school style.

Agree, I watched that vid several times in succession looking for center pipes and I couldn't tell if it had them or not. With regard to manual only, PDK only, choice between the two, fixed wing or adaptable aero, etc. you can find "proof" of virtually any combination if you look at enough web sites. I've even seen mention of a 4.0L motor. Little point in trying to predict at this point......

Agree with Rad. BTW I am happy with my 997 RS! Won't buy a 991 until Porsche races the 991 for a few years.

Somehow I think you are right, deep down nobody want a new GT3 that is not going to be the fastest GT3 at that time. Anyway I hope they do, it will only make mine a little more special

A GT3 needs a race engine and a race proven transmission, nothing less. Then, some geometry adjustments in the suspension, big brakes, brake cooling ducts, light body panels, light muffler, and a few aero tricks, that makes a GT3.

First, VW need to come with a Dry-Sump version of the engine, which they don't have. Next they need a light tranny, not the PDK brick. Then they need to go racing for 2 years, by the end of the 2nd year, they can make a street version of the race car.

This is how it started, back in 1998 with the 996 GT3 Cup, followed immediately by the 1999-2000 3.6 360Hp GT3, and it just got better from there.

A 991 GT3 based on the rumors and pictures is not a GT3. It could be fast, the Nissan GTR is fast too, and the Camaro is now running GT3 times, but neither of these cars is remotely close to a GT3.

Fortunately, VW built plenty of Aero Beetles, and some people are collecting them for future buyers at a great discount.
+1, well said!

The sound of the first car certainly sounds different.
go look at those pictures again ... that car is not running GT3 brakes ... I doubt its a GT3 mule...

since there is a manual/PDK for the 991's already, I dont see why this would not be extended to the GTx cars...

dont forget the center pipe configuration was a feature of the 997 variant engine, the previous 996 variants did not have this, so there is no requirement that the 991 variant should have them, especially since the 991 will not have the same engine variant as the 997...
