Default My RS (997.2) making weird noise...

Initially it started when in 5th gear and slowing to cruise at 75kmh - a sort of dull toned clicking/knocking noise (a bit like if a stone is stuckin the tyre but much lower tone). Now happening when in other gears driving slow. Comes and goes - very sporadic. No warning lights. Uploaded video of noise (see link below) - its the low dull noise. Any ideas before I take to dealer? I've done 19k.

Cheers

There's so much noise in your video, can you pinpoint what you're referring to? I hear some 5-10Hz clicking around 0:05-0:06, coming back around 0:09-0:10 is that it? Where do you feel it's coming from? Front? Back? Underneath? In-cabin?

At first I thought it was from the rear, then it sounded like the front, then underneath me! Driving car this morning it sounds more like rear. The noise is the lower toned clicking/knocking sounds not the higher pitched rattle

It's the SAND MONSTER! Heck, I watched the OP's video 3x over but still can't figure out one noise from another. This diagnosis-by-video attempt ranks right up there with telepathy and psychic OOBE...

Jokes aside, OP u can help narrow down the possibilities from a range of variables. Does the volume & frequency change with speed, and how so? Does it happen at idle? If you can't pinpoint the source, can you solicit a second pair of ears? Does it happen with a cold engine or regardless?

Dude! Thank you for making me laugh and laugh and laugh!!! Good tonic for having just spent the last hour and half with dealer tech driving around to hear the sound..... Only for it not to appear and then yes, you guessed it for it to reappear driving home!!!!!!!!!

In answer to ur queries it seems to come on and off at will, seems to be coming from the Rear and is like a dull rattle. Happens more when you slow down or at least it's when the noise is loudest. Goes away if you take car out or gear or brake. I'm flabbergasted.... Even had it up on the lift. Only thing we noticed was the inside rear plastic rear brake duct was cracked.

Did you recently change suspension settings? How long do the rattles last when they occur each time?

1198r,

It kind of sounds like what I had. Very light clicking, seemed from rear wheel, then front. I finally narrowed it down to the wheels. Regreased the centerlocks and that seemed to do the trick.

No changes whatsoever. They tend to last for about 2 - 4 seconds. Best way I can describe the sound is its a bit like the clicking machine football supporters take to make that dreadful noise!

The Greek - will look into it but centre locks changed under warranty and checked etc, albeit some several click ago!

Noise prominent at 10 seconds on video

I would be worried if a GT3 was weird-noise free.

You need a ride with a stripped from insulation one, with old monoballs and an open exhaust to rearrange your thoughts on the matter.

BTW if you must, check the interior's cover below the rear window, rattled in the 6, rattled in the 7.1. Could rattle in the 7.2 too.

Hi John. Trust me, I would not post on this forum unless I knew it was out of the ordinary.

Rotor assembly or wheel bearing.

PM LehmanZ06 (David, don't call him Dave), he had a similar problem.

I would lift the car and reproduce the sound rotating the front wheels, then remove wheel to see if sound is still there. If sound is gone, check wheels and CL system. If sound still there, check bearings, rotor, abs gear.

It should be easy to find out.
