Default RS Gets Beat by HotDog

Had some fun with my youngest boy at the Awana Grand Prix. (pinewood derby in my day) With a lot of patience, time and sanding we managed to make his car look like an RS (sorta), what he calls "Daddy's Race Car". Keep in mind this is a block of wood. We won a few races, but wound up about 5th overall. We got beat by the hotdog for best design. Really? I guess we made our car look too much like, well, a car.

Great job, Way to share the passion with the younger gens. I love the design you guys made. Sounds like the judges need to get beat with a hotdog

Very special moment with the son, Look at the smile on his face. You made that.. nice work bud. Congratulations.

Thanks lopro! It was a lot of fun. He had a ball, but cried when we lost. But, it was a teachable moment. He doesn't like to lose. Have no idea where he gets it from.

I'll post up later my cheater red ambulance that had a 3/8ths 19mm socket buried inside it to lower the center of gravity. It also perfectly balanced on 3 wheels to reduce rolling friction and may have had the axles polished and coated in an Intel semi-conductor lab - although this is only a rumor.

Our dad group actually created 2 classes - legal and wide open cheating - it was hysterical what some of the cheaters did - one of the engineering dads built a laser wheel alignment machine. Mine looked like wood but was so filled with metal we called it the red brick.

Cool, please do. We did have to add weight, but they kept a strict 5 oz limit. Next year I'm building for speed instead of design. Can't deny winning that one!

Liquid graphite to lube the wheels. Made a hugh difference back in my day. My car went from almost last to first place everytime. Too bad it was after the real race.

Yeah, now they lube all the cars to make it more equitable. Next year I'm getting my own graphite.

Yeah, back in my day it was 3 in 1 oil or this new stuff called WD40 (which we all know is not a lube). Some sneaky Dad knew about this stuff called liquid graphite.

Thanks! Did me too. My Dad made an F1 style car for me back in the early 70's...still have it.
