Default Gruppe M intake for 3.8 GT/GT3RS?

HP Motorsport has been working towards development of a Gruppe M carbon intake for the 3.8 liter GT3's. Another extremely intelligent, good looking, well spoken, RL'er suggested a feeler thread.

We want to develop a high quality carbon intake with conical filters that would bolt on directly to our existing 3.8's.

THERE IS A RUB...Gruppe M Japan will likely only develop the piece if we have 8-10 orders. We have tried to let them know that US customers would be hard pressed to purchase an unproven product, so here we are. How would you guys feel about something like this?

For what it's worth, we've sold many Gruppe M carbon intakes for the Audi RS4, with great results.

For more information, visit www.hpmx.com, or www.gruppemusa.com.

Some photos of the Gruppe M 997 Turbo intake to give you an idea:

Mike, great idea, but how about some pictures (at least, design diagrams) to give people a sense of what this product is?

Do not intend to be negative BUT ...
I have not seen these intakes make any power. They are pretty pieces but I got them for my E60M5 and '07 RS4 and zero gains yielded.
Way back in August 07 had planned to get an intake for my 997GT3 and after ordering the product it never existed.
Again they are pretty.

Sorry.

I don't disagree. In fact I recall Preuninger mentioned that the OEM 3.8RS intake is good up thru 470bhps or so.

That said, I think the OP deserves a forum to at least tell us what the product is and let us decide from there on.

Are you referring to intakes in general, or specifically to Gruppe M intakes?

I do have test data that show gains (albeit not huge gains) in power. We do not yet have a 3.8 liter intake yet, but a gain in power would obviously be our primary goal. PM me your e-mail address, or e-mail me at michael.klaskin@hp-motorsport.com, and I will send you what I have.

Getting a good dialogue going here is good for product development and good for RL, so please keep the questions and comments coming.

Thanks.

I think is a great initiative, the quality is really good, would be great to have something that looks good and works.

Yes, it would have to work, it would have to look very good, and would have to be cheaper than the 4.0 intake.

If you want to pm me your e-mail, I'll send you the same information I sent to Lopro. Thanks.

I will say that a good designed intake will make power, but it should be coupled with a better flowing exhaust, plenum, and TB to make the most gains.

Or else IMO you are just trying to blow more air through a small straw.

Count me in. Exhaust upgrade in process so I need to unleash the other end.

All very true.
Now this may be apples n oranges but as an example, my E60M5.
Had installed Supersprint headers, LW pulley, Dinan TB's (10 TB's of 52mm vs stock 50mm), 3" catless exhaust and the tune. Then the Gruppe M intakes (they were beautiful) were installed and zero gains were realized. It was a tough $2,500.
Hopefully for the flat six platform this will be a different outcome.
