Default Putting The Car Up On 4 Jacks How To?

I saw something for this a while ago but can't find it.

I need to put my car up on 4 jack stands. I have those rubber pad Esco stands.

What is the correct procedure to do this? I'm worried about getting 1 side up and then jacking the other side and the car moves...you know how it moves side to side and the jack crawls when jacking?

Thanks for any help and advice!

I lift from the rear side jackpoint, put a jackstand under the front, do the same on the other side so that you have jackstands under both sides of the the front and then lift up the rear from the center. I'm not sure how your car (a GTS) is done because you need to be cautious not to lift on your motor (we can lift on the centerline of the engine case for the GT3 motors).

I'd guess that jackpoint stands would be your savior....

Not sure about your stands....

I lift from rear jackpoint and lift high enough to insert rear stand and front stand, then lower onto the stands. Repeat on other side.

The jackpoint stands I use are so beefy I don't worry about the car moving when jacking the second side. So far it has never happened.

Similar to other above...

I lift from the rear jack point until the front stand fits under the car. At the same time i slide a big block of timber under the rear tyre and lower. The timber reduces the angle when you put it down and makes access to rear for final lift easy. I then do exactly the same on the other side to get the whole front up.

Final lift is from the rear cross member to either left or right of centre (not centre) where it has the huge metal mounts bolted to chassis. If you stick your head under there, you'll know exactly where I mean... A couple of pumps and the rear stands go in... As mentioned above, it won't move much especially if you minimise the anges of lean with the rear timber blocks. On a side note, i don't like to lift from the engine as it puts undue stress on the engine mounts. Where i lift it is just chunky metal going direct to chassis. Nothing can move, nothing can bend!

Not following you... So when you go to lift second side you do not use the rear jack point?

Good idea with the block for first wheel. Definitely will do that from now on.

Oh, I now get what you're saying.... With Jackpoint stands, you can jack from the rear jackpoint, and simultaneously insert stands at rear jackpoint.

Jacking the rear on a GT3 doesn't it cause the front aero lip splitter to hit the ground?

Sorry drl, first lift is from rear lift pad to get front drivers side on a stand and a block under that rear. Second lift from the passengers rear lift pad to get a stand under the passengers front pad and a block under that rear. At this point, both front stands are in place and rear wheels of car are sitting on 4" timber blocks.

Final lift is from either side of the rear cross member, directly beneath where the cross member attaches to the chassis via a thick chunky aluminium support. Whilst lifting off centre, the back of the car goes up level because of its rigidity and both rear stands get slid into place... Done

To get it down, reverse order of the above... Hope this explains it better. I will try and find a diagram of where I'm lifting at the rear cross member and post. Nothing can bend where I lift....

GTS has the 9A1 engine and can not be jacked from the engine case at all.

Yes Jack Point stands would be the best way but honestly I can't pay $700-800 for a set of those things...they are WAY to much money.

Mike, I use two floor jacks at the rear jack points, lift the car and place the jack stands under the subframe where the rear LCA meets the subframe.

Generally, the heavier axle is where jack stands have to be place first.

Then once again with two floor jacks, use the front jack points, and place the jack stands where the trailing arm meets the front subframe (there are three bolts there where you measure front ride height).

If I were you, I would get a pair of the jackpoint jack stands and use them either on the rear axle or front axle. They are very convenient for multiple other things we do at the track (changing brake pads on an entire side safely, changing oil, etc).
