Ended up buying a 2012 Carrara White Cayman R today. A little loaded for my taste, but my wife loved it. It has PDK, paddle shifters, PCM, XM, dynamic cornering lights, automatic AC, Bose Surround, Black wheels, universal audio, heated seats, automatic dimming mirrors, and sport chrono.

Anyways, Park Place Porsche in Dallas was great to work with (and i've dealt with a few before). Not only did they give me a more than fair price, they switched the Cayman seats to OEM GT2 bucket seats that I was just about to buy for my GT3!! That way, I can put the bucket seats in my GT3 (which I have been planning to anyways - luckily RLer 4forme is a good friend and let me back out of the seat deal with him) and then put my current adaptive sport seats in the Cayman R for my wife.

Should be fun to compare the two cars back to back at the track now. GT3 FTW!!!

Before you do the comparison please put some decent tires on the CR (and alignment). It is not fair to compare the 2 w/o some comparable rubber on both the cars.

I think it was on C&D couple months ago that they compared the two but I don't think it would be fair to the Cayman R with the standard tires on it.

The white with black looks excellent. G/L to you and your wife with it. Before you spend any more money on cars, fix that ratty-looking stockade fence at your house as it's messing up the pic's !!!

All the fences in our neighborhood look like that! Heat and termites I guess! I did't want to be the only one with a pristine fence and stand out!

Will do. Already have alignment plans. Car came with Michelin Pilot Sports so definitely will need some different rubber.

Thanks. I think you are partly to blame since I know you have been posting your interest in the Cayman R for some time! Even if it is no match for the GT3 it is still a very good looking car.

Congrats on the new R! I am sure it will be immensely enjoyed by you and your wife.

So is the thread title reverse psychology?

congrats! now do usual 'minimal' suspension upgrade - if this R does not come with dual piece gt3 style LCAs - put on RSS tarmac LCAs
http://www.sharkwerks.com/products.php?pid=322 and with enough shims get front camber to -2.5,
then put on adjustable rear toe links
http://www.tarett.com/items/996-997-...lnk-detail.htm

then do aligment to get rid of crazy toe settingsfrom the factory and car will be ready to run.in the rear with those toe links you should be able to match front camber with stock LCAs.

springs, dogbones, sway bars etc. may wait

I guess so, but not really... Cayman R not for me. Would never replace GT3 for it is all I meant. Nice looking car, though. I'll steal it tomorrow morning and try the PDK out in Dallas traffic...should be more relaxing.
