Question 2007 GT3 oil filter part confusion

Hi,

I just got some 2007 Gt3 oil filters that i ordered and I am confused if they are the correct filters as the supplied oil filters are numbered 996-107-225-53.

The old oil filter i took out had a larger hole within it than the supplied oil filters just sent me. The size of the oil filter hole is significant as that long plastic oil filter tube has to fit within that hole and the filters just sent me have a small hole and I had to force the long plastic tube within the filter. By contrast, the old oil filter I took out had a larger hole and that long plastic oil filter tube fit easily fit within the old oil filter with no problem.

Could these the wrong oil filter for perhaps another 911, such as the basic 996 engine ?

Also, the kit came with three crush rings. My car uses two crush rings, not three.

Also, my car requires a very small oil O-Ring that goes on the tip of the oil filter long plastic tube, and the oil-filter kit lacks that small rubber O-Ring.

However, the oil-filter kit however does include that large rubber O-Ring that fits on the hard plastic oil filter cannister housing.

Thanks

I've used 996-107-225-53 filter that comes with the large O-ring.

Part 999-707-465-40 is the small rubber O-ring.

You should have 2 sealing, or crush rings.
900-123-010-20 is the copper ring.
900-123-118-30 is the Al ring.

I've ordered all this from www.sunset imports.com
Hope this helps!

Thanks, so I should be ok with the tight supplied oil-filters. did you too have to force that long plastic oil-filter tube into the new oil-filter ? I bought the Gt3 used at 11k and have 19k on it now. This is my second oil filter change and so far I am on the original small O-Ring 999-707-225-53 as every time I order a so called oil-filter kit it always lacks that small O-Ring.

I wonder what car the large oil-filter bore hole version is for ?

the same oil filter is used for everything from a CGT to a Cayenne

this is likely why they don't package the small o-ring with it
efficiency, cost savings

It's the right filter. I think when you go to pull out that new filter, on the next oil change the hole will be larger. I sized up both filters and matched part numbers the other day. I was wondering the same thing. However, I noticed that what made the hole smaller was just the overlap of fabric at both ends of the hole. I think that the small hole will enlarge once it gets some use. Don't they always?

That makes sense re the holes. But why would Sun-Coast sell a "Oil Filter KIT" for the 2007 Gt3 with three crush rings (need only two), One large O-Ring and no smaller O-Ring ?

ah, I see... Suncoast is packaging a kit.
I agree, it should have the smaller o-ring in it.

It isn't critical to change it every time but if someone were to ask us to sell them a filter for their GT3 and "whatever else is needed" we would include the o-ring

I am sure they are open to suggestions
