Default Is this the stock shifter or a short shifter?

Just snapped a few pics to see if anybody can confirm which shifter this is without having to take off the entire rear console. Or even better, does anybody have a picture of what the stock and short shifter assembly look like to highlight the differences?

FYI....car is a 997.1 GT3

the 997.1 gt3 shifter is not a special version it's just a 997 shifter.
It's shorter than the 996 one you were using until now.

DON'T install the short shifter it's only for show and convertibles.

Your shifter is fine, get the cub cables and if you want a bit longer throws get the cup one if you want short and robust get the 7.2 GT3 one.

John,

The 7.2 3.8RS shifter is different? It is the same throw compared to the 997.1 gt3 shifter, right? (but with some more metal, I think..)

It is also the same to the 997.2 gt3 shifter or no?

Correct; standard 997 shifter; plastic bushings

997.2 GT3 has the metal bushings (Suncoast link)

John

I had a 7.1 c4s and a 7.1 gt3

The gt3 does not have the same shifter as the 7.1 c4s

At least to my feel meter

Dell, 7.1 gr3 feels like short shifter

Forget the cup car/cable replacement for a moment...anyone know if the 3.8 metal bushings can replace the 3.6 plastic? Any difference in feel? Or is it a total shifter swap? I feel the 3.6 shifter is vague or not precise especially 2nd to 3rd shifts..wonder if metal bushings will tighten it up..

"997 424 010 00" same part number

of course drive a Gt3 after a c4s and everything feels "better" indeed.

Seriously though, it really feels shorter in the 997 GT3 because although the shifter is the same the GT3 features a specific short lever ratio on the transmission input lever.

dell, all the 7gt3 variants have notchier and shorter shifting than 6gt3.
the only way to fix it is cup car cables. but you will get used to stock 7 shifter no prob.
do not use B&M. it's way notchy.

Cool, thanks John. What does a set of cup cables run?
