Izzone, can you point us to your pics? I'm very very curious after having witnessed three mint-condition 3.8 RS'es break their clutches at the track this year...

Little holes crackand the spring falls out and destroys the PP. Defective part, underdesigned for the 3.8RS. The new 4.0 clutch is missing these holes.

After 100 miles my clutch broke and it broke my brand new shine 4.0 PP as well.
Now no warranty, no goodwil from Porsche +/- 5k. The dealer has been great and fighting for me, but even though there is a superceding clutch, I was never given an opportunity to buy it when they had the car apart. Now I get to pay for a 4.0 PP and 4.0 clutch. You can't even get the 3.8 anymore, the dealers orders 3.8 part number and 4.0 box shows up.

I don't know if I can take Porsches ignorance any longer.
A titanium exhaust that fails every 3K OK, but parts failing that have been taken off the shelf because the fail on all RS should be covered with the superceding part under warranty, even recalled.

Pics of the clutch and pp to follow.
Pete, really sorry to hear that you've suffered this failure at their hands and that Porsche aren't stepping up... Just a quick question, why soooo much for the repair? Have they given you a break up of costs? I got a quote for parts to do a 4.0 clutch p/p upgrade and the clutch, p/plate, bolts and bearing came to like $1270ish dollars from one of your US dealers... Unfortunately (or fortunately) I found that non RS cars have a different clutch &p/plate to the RS models so I can't do the upgrade... I considered the upgrade after izzone gave me a heads up...

If you have no further damage, take it to your usual race shop, get the parts shipped and be done for heaps less! PM me your email for pricing and the dealer I source parts from...I source most of my wear and tear service items from the US...

Good luck mate, I hope you're back on the road soon... Porsche are really not doing themselves any favours with poor designs followed by poor product support...

Wow that is unreal Peter. So sorry. Since you are paying now, maybe a nice carbon multi disc clutch assembly is in order...

7.25" might be streetable...

Here are pictures from my recent replacement.

I do want to state in my case I have no ill will towards Porsche or my dealer. I am posting these pictures as information purposes only. I was treated fair by Porsche, considering a clutch is a wear item, not warranty.

In my situation it was not a money shift. I went to shift from 4-5 and the clutch went soft. I immediately turned car off and had it towed.

I got lucky in my failure, there was no damage to the transmission case. If the clutch breaks and damages the transmission case it will be bigger dollars

I sent these pitures to Peter, he sent them to his dealer. His dealer claimed he has the same failure as me, we have not seen it in person yet to verify.

I apologize in advance for crappy Iphone photos

Here are pictures of my pressure plate (dirty one) and a new 4.0 pressure plate (shiny one). My pressure plate did not fail, it was damaged when the clutch spring broke

Here are pictures of my failed 3.8 clutch and shiny new 4.0 clutch

It looks to me like the clutch broke where the two small holes are by the springs (note: holes are removed on 4.0 clutch)

same as above, shiny is 4.0.....dirty is 3.8

My car has 12,500 miles at the time of failure

That's a nasty chunck of parts to have rattling around inside the box.

Actually very little difference in daily driving. Have installed a number of LWFs in the newer cars and left the solid hub clutch. Drivers have no clue what is still there. Never an issue or complaint. As long as you do not go to a 6-4-3 paddle blade, you will get some slip and very streetable and still good on track. For real track junkies, a little better material on the full solid disc is needed.
