Default Porsche GT3 RS vs MP4-12C video review

From Autocar.co.uk

Following on from our teaser video last week, here's the full chase video we promised you. We've pitched the venerable Porsche GT3 RS against the dizzying McLaren MP4-12C on Rockingham's tight and twisty track. So which one is the faster car? Here, Steve Sutcliffe finds out.

RS is actually doing FANTASTIC against a car that has 100HP more power and has had that much technology built into it! BRAVO!

About what I'd expect for 140HP differential only partially offset by lower weight.

And silly amounts of torque. Not sure why the commentator wrote off the Porsche at the end, he seemed to be doing quite well. Although, on a normal track with any amount of straight line sections the difference would be much larger I have no doubt.

The Porsche is better under braking, keeps up in the corners. The MC looks ridiculous with the airbrake. Are the brakes not good enough by themselves? It is also messing up the airflow for the Porsche. The 4.0 RS would be closer on the straights imo.

I would have liked to have seen a lap with the RS in front where the McLaren hadn't killed its momentum in the turns. The RS may have made some time.....

And consider the source - a british journalist touting a british manufacturer... We see that on Top Gear all the time...

Frankly, I thought the RS handled quite well....

OMG - don't be so chippy, he was very fair about the pCar, I don't know how good a driver he is. Realistically, the McL should be noticeably faster than the fCar as well. I would have thought that the brakes on the McL were the equal of the GT3 (based on my experience).

I don't carry a torch for TG but many Brits complain that it trashes Brit cars, so they must be doing something right. Anyway, Morgan is the biggest British car manufacturer, so who cares about Brit cars?

A much smaller advantage than I thought. The Porsche guy is obviously working harder. The MP4-12c is a dual clutch. The RS had a very respectable showing. The 4.0 would be much closer, the GT2 RS should get it in the straights I think.

macca driver looks like he is playing playstation. inconsistent, wayward entry into corners, then point and shoot for maximum effect. like a blunt instrument.
