Default 2007 GT3RS - does "TC off" really mean off?

I'm told that even with TC off it is not fully disengaged. The solution being to install a switch that will fully disengage the TC. However, another member suggests that off is off. Does anyone know for sure one way or the other?

This closes an age-old question then... What about the 997.1 GT3? "Off" as well, or does this just apply to the RS?

Tried it completely off for the first time this weekend on. Amazing how much better the car is when it's turned off. Never saw any flashing triangles as I used to in my Cayman S when PSM was allegedly "off".

I have confirmed through rotor temp tests and by driving on sheet ice that when you turn it off, it's 100% off on the 997.1 GT3. In actual use, leaving the TC on and pushing the car hard on a bumpy track will quickly overheat the rear brakes.

When the 997.1 GT3 came out, there were plenty of threads on Rennlist addressing PSM & TC.... After much debate, it was concluded that PSM is never actually "off"... I'm not sure about TC. At work now, but will try to revive some of those old threads later tonight...

EDIT: Couldn't let this one go... No PSM on 997.1s - only TC. Man, I recall learning years ago that TC off is never really off... Still searching..

So all those 996 GT3 owner's who claim their car is a true drivers car vs. the 997 GT3 with "TC off" is just that.... a myth? huh..

Drive a 996 GT3 on the track with proper set-up, then talk to me about a true comparison - deal? Seriously, post your statement on the 996 GT3 website. I'd like Mooty and Dell to address that one...

Alright - found the following from an MJones post in 2006:

TC
Traction Control reduces wheelspin under full acceleration which could destabilize the rear of the car. The standard trigger threshold for the system is purposely so high that it is rarely exceeded during normal road-driving in dry conditions. It is possible to raise the threshold higher still by pressing the Sport button on the center console. For maximum involvement, the system can be fully disabled by using the separate “TC OFF” switch. Traction Control combines three electronic control systems with one another: ABD Automatic Brake Differential, ASC Automatic Slip Control, and EDC Engine Drag Control.

PSM
PSM is an automatic control system offering valuable assistance in specific, critical driving scenarios and to accomplish this, PSM uses a range of sensors to monitor the direction, speed, yaw velocity (speed of rotation around the vertical axis) and lateral acceleration of the car. Based on this information, it can then calculate the actual direction of travel. If the car begins to oversteer or understeer, PSM applies selective braking on individual wheels to bring the car back into line. Whenever PSM is forced to intervene, an indicator light in the cockpit is illuminated.

You guys are spot on...

This sounds just like the old E46 M3 TC debacle where you turn it off, but then people said that at insane slip angles the ABS still intervenes (although the engine intervention is completely off), which I think is stupid because that causes the car to hook back dramatically after you've already thrown in a bunch of opposite lock. It was ultimately too hard for anyone to ever confirm, and although I drive mine at stupid slip angles all the time, I have a hard time ever noticing any difference despite trying both methods of turning of "OFF" the TC.

So in order to turn that "off", you had to hold the TC button down for 5 seconds or something like that.

Yes, if they refer to TC / SC.

TC and SC are really off when they are off on all of the GT3's.

on '10+ SC and TC can be turned back on when the car detects a rapidly deflating tire; A clear truely flat tare that goes to zero PSI quickly.
This is NOT the same as the usual flat tire warning that just shows a low, but steady PSI; That warning does not ever turn the TC or SC back on.

its "off"; only the carerras PSM remained "in the background" and re-intervened if certain criteria were exceeded. The TC systems on the .1 and .1RS are the same AFIAK.
