The 458 is really fast... I thought the SLS would be closer to the 458 with it's torque and tranny. GTR is a already know result. Same time as mine, but 9 MPH shy, 2012 have a very nice launch control software.

Who are u? Some mystery meat : )-jk. Neway my point is who on this freaking board has ever done the drag racing strip other then rad and still continue doing so in gt3's? It's a pointless comparison. Tell me track laptimes - I would look at it with a grain of salt. Never saw the gt3 in a drag racing scenario and never will. Mike

Straight line acceleration shows a car performance's potential. I don't look at the ET, because this is more a function of LC + AWD + sticky tires, but actual terminal speed is what shows the passing power a car has at a road course.

I had the chance to see a 997 Turbo S at Homestead, the car was a little slower than my Cayman on the Turns, but he was lapping 5 secs faster.

And whoever doesn't care about lap times, Boxsters are for sale right now for $7,000, no need for a GT3.

If u got that kinda attitude applying drag racing to a road coarse- please stay away from me. Drag racing thru a road coarse with a dozen or more cars is a formula for disaster. Mike

I'm not a huge fan of drag racing, but I did expect the RS to fare slightly better than it did.

Then again, it does have a proper manual transmission, vs ALL the cars ahead of it (except Z06). Thats probably worth 0.5s in a quarter mile I would say...

THEN AGAIN, the gap to the Cayman R is not big. GT3RS (is supposed) to be > GT3 > C2S > Carrera/Cayman R. 3 steps in performance (and price!) and only 1s is not much. Not sure if the GT3 underperformed or if the Cayman overperformed...

991 gt3 needs to be light as a feather. 3000 lbs with fluids and 3/4 tank of gas!

Edit: I agree with NJ-GT. Try passing a car with a higher or equal terminal speed but slower through the corners. In fact, try just keeping up with him. I chased a CL55 AMG around track a while back. Huge torque and HP. Nothing in the corners. He'd pull 100m in the straights without breaking a sweat. I'd make up 80 in the corners. I had to wait till his brakes caught fire... (so, 2 laps)

RS has no torque. pOrsche's in general have crap torque, just too small an engine, too small an amount of displacement.

who would ever have thought a porsche gt3RS could win a drag race.
add some cones, a few turns, some stuff where balance and handling come into play and it would do better. THen again ,the 458 is pretty strong there as well. im pretty sure its midengine car.

a 4.0l turbo charged cayman just might be able to hang.
