not questioning the veracity of the data, just questioning the value of it in assessing the car... they are about as exciting as Motorweek, and you cant get any lamer than that, oh wait ... I forgot Top Gear America!

i.e the data is not funny ... the magazine IS ... pathetically so...

compare to something like EVO eCotY...

Don't be surprise if this car shows as just a little better than the 3.8 RS, because that's what it is. It is the best of them all, but the 3.8 RS is already so good, that it is difficult to drastically improve from it.

991 GT3 should bring better news.
How so?

Btw, did anyone else notice something strange with their 200 mph run on the autobahn...as in it is impossible for a production RS 4.0 to run 200 mph? The gearing limits it to 193 at the rev limiter in 6th. This means either the speedo was way off or it had non standard gearing.

The speedo in my 2007 GT3 RS was off by 4%. My Cayman is off by 3.5%. My 996 GT3 was off by 2.5%. My Fiat is the worse of all, 6% off.

200mph indicated is actually in the low 190s.

Lay of the high sugar ice cream Rad.. ;-)
The lower weight remains to be seen, more power remains to be seen and moving weight forward remains to be seen and that not absolutely always a good thing, but we will see...

All true, but bigger car and thus less exhilirating and less communicative ala 458 pig!

I want something that I can toss around therefore 997 is my heaven.

all of those would be good, but mostly speculation at this point right? (no offence intended)

I thought we had already discussed the apparent weight loss & balance that is not present in the carerras about to be launched ... wheelbase is of course not debatable, the engine (in my mind at least) is ... as for the tranny, I thought the 7sp manual was intended to meet euro economy measures and I am not smart enough to map that requirement onto shorter ratios ...

I guess I am just a nay sayer (sorry, but at least self confessed) I dont see any 991/9A1 based platform as a real GT3 ... I promise to eat a set of 4.0L dive planes if I am proved wrong, and perhaps even forsake my 7.2 for one of the accursed CayPanaManEraCanaEnnes GT3's

larry/trakcar, the 991 probably will be better performancewise, but the 3.8/4.0L car is great in their own right. keep the 3.8L and lease the 991gt3.

The disapointing performance numbers are no doubt due to the increased down force and disruption of air flow caused by the addition of the new front dive planes.

My Ruf GT2 at 200mph GPS was showing 207mph on the speedo, so 3.5% error.

Worst car I owned for this was a Gallardo, it showed 190mph on the speedo, when GPS was only 173mph, so nearly 10% error.

I don't even want to know where you guys are hitting 200 mph...

Of course, my car will never see that speed anyway
