I'm with you. You only have one chance to do it right, and it is your car after all. I've got almost 700 miles on my new GTS and break in is driving me crazy, but I'm going to do it my way.

And what method are you using?

Congrats on a beautiful car!!

I broke mine in exactly as you are doing and she has been tight and punchy.. Right after breakin, ran a 2 day at NJMP. No abnormal oil usage here...

Best of luck with her!!

My own variation of the factory break in. I hold (and have held) to the 4200 rev limit for the first 500 miles and vary speeds and engine load. After 500 miles, where I am now, I raise the rpm limit 500 rpms to 4700 with an occasional blip to as much as 5K rpms. At 1000 miles I increase to 5200 plus a bit on occasion. At 1500 miles I let it eat a few times, still varying engine load but keeping it mostly around 6k rpms. Around 1800 miles or so I feel like it's broken in. I've used this method on all 4 of my Porsches and it seems to work. Of course I probably could have run the crap out of it with the same results but I'm certainly doing no harm. I have not used a drop of oil in any of my Porsches and hope I have the same luck with the GTS. I also change oil at around 2k miles to get rid of any wear metals. Perhaps more superstitious than scientific, but it's my car. I appreciate your restraint in holding off on tracking. BTW, I switch to Castrol SRF brake fluid at the first oil change.

Obviously a little late to the party. Congrats mike, I know you been waiting don this for a long time. Sorry to hear about the dealer in my hometown, which one was it? You can pm if you like about that. I'll get my point by hand ready for winterfest when I see you down there.

Mike:

Great looking car and you have convinced me to put the aero kit on my '09 PDK C2S like you, PDK is almost a requirement because of a low back issue. When the back is "better than normal" I enjoy tracking the old SC but that is not too often.

I'm at Auto Quest with Gavin now getting the roll bar install and harness and a cheater alignment. The alingment the dealer worked on for hours...no lie...was so far off from the specs I gave them it was laughable.

I told you not to have it done there...

What does Gavin think of the toe links?

You were correct...another candy bar for you.

Roll bar is going in now they haven't looked underneath yet or started the string alingment just yet.

You can save that candy bar add it to the two more you're gong to give me when you figure out CL's and 3 piece wheels are a pain in the ***

Vortex is doing my alignment tomorrow. They asked me what I wanted done. They seem puzzled when I said I have no clue and just told them whatever it takes for my car not to spin

I've looked slot into alignments and besides all the issues about it depends on the driver, tires, track and so forth...and from Talking to Gavin and a Grand Am race team the consensus is for a starting point for street and track...weighting a little heavy on the track part is to go with

-2.5 degrees per side front
.5 mm out to zero toe front

-2 degrees per side rear
2mm toe in per side
