Default Kumho V710 Tire Size

Just picked up a set of 18" OZ Allegerita Wheels for my 997 GT3. I have been running Hoosier R6s for a while on my 19" Volks. Looking to try the Kumho
V710s for longer life. Looking for help with sizes. Kumho offers the 245/35 and 245/40's for the fronts and 305/30 or 315/35 for the rears. Any help with sizing, ABS issues, and round vs. square issues appreciated.

Use the search tool and look for posts from Mikymu. Or just PM him. He ran Kumhos for a few seasons on his GT3 RS.

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....del=Ecsta+V710

From above link from tire rack if the specs are correct for tire diameter then you want to use the following combinations

1) 245/35 with 305/30 (24.8 and 25.5 diameters)
2) 245/40 with 315/35 (25.7 and 26.4 diameters)

The problem with the above is that the ABS is correct but the design is wrong as for each pair, one is Square and one is Rounded - I don't know if this 'really' matters but the tires would be mismatched just so you know - phone someone at Tirerack or Kumho and ask their opinion.

The 245/35 and 315/35 are both Rounded but it is likely (but not certain) to be close to ABS issues as you are (24.8 / 26.4). You could maybe make this work using tire pressures but you may run into ABS issues

If you were a real man, then 285/30 and 305/30 is perfect for ABS .

After reading the tire rack Rounded versus Square (new vs old) description, if appears you can mix and match so this is a good thing. They state that the older Rounder designs run wide in section width and the new Square designs run narrower. They also state that the new Square may need more negative camber versus the older Rounded all things equal.

Since both ABS pairs would work, there is likely a few questions that may help you decide:
1) do you want the shorter pair for gearing
2) wider pair for grip
3) do you want the Rounded style on the front Square on the rear or vice-versa

Again, a real man would shove a 285 upfront. Believe it or not it is probably possible with a rotated front top strut, a 9.5 inch rim running a 38-40 offset with -2.5 camber with a slightly worked fender.

thanks for the time and effort spent on my behalf. Very helpful.
Will be thinking about what I am looking for and decide by tomorrow so I can order. On one hand I like the thought of the gearing benefits and on the other hand I like the grip as I am giving up the HooHoos.
Also will speak with Damon at TireRack regarding all.

Another issue to consider is the 245/35 will / should give you a crisper turn-in feel as it is lower profile and IF being the older style (rounded) it may also be wider than spec and this I think be a better front tire - the specs from tirerack would say differently on the spec sheet for the front tire, but since they specifically mention this issue in the tire description you should consider this issue. Finally, the shorter setup lowers your ride height by 1/2 inch so this again is worth considering in addition to the gearing effect. If you take advantage of this shorter tire and reduce your ride height by 1/2 inch to adjust for the shorter tire you will gain the full 1 inch so another benefit.

Going against the above argument, some people like the feel of the car to be softer so the taller setup would give you more sidewall.

Just read the TireRack summary and with your help, I understand much more. I like the thought of the crisper turn-in and the half-inch lower as well as I believe will help with the gearing. At this point I plan to go with the 245/35 with the 305/30's although I wish the 315/35s would work but as you mention, I dont want to mess with the ABS issue.

I mix and match (round R, square F) on my .2RS with 18s. Works very well.

Seegs: Are you doing this for a .1 model? I'm looking at these tires as well. Seems to just not have the "right" sizes to do this properly.

This also concerns me a bit. From TireRack: "While rounded shoulder and squared shoulder tires can be combined in axle pairs on the same vehicle, some unique vehicle tuning may be required to maximize the performance of both designs. "

As if tire shopping wasn't complicated enough, they go and have to have square and rounded designs. For cryin' out loud!
