Default couple GT3 questions >>

Just bought a used 2007 GT3 - 16k miles.

I'm assuming these are not stock... does having these installed disable the PASM?

and is this normal? (doesn't smell like oil - trans fluid?)

thanks in advance.

Your springs are stock. There even is a Porsche part number printed on them.

Wonder why it's 996 spring on there though. Should start with 997.

no ppi - deal went down very fast. however, very thorough service records. could this be rms leakage?

997.1 GT3 used the front springs of the 996.2 GT3.
Probably the only properly working thing in its PASM suspension.

The MacPherson term is generally used to describe a type of strut design. Named after Earle MacPherson who "reinvented it" in the late 40s.

HR springs are standard for many years.

I was told that "you don't want to crack open the case on a GT3 to fix a RMS, due to the fact of the tolerances built in by the factory you don't want to take a chance".
Not sure I believe that.
Isn't a weeping RMS bad for a engine ?

My idiotic approach to this problem:

Its basically an oil leak. When does an oil leak pose a problem? Either when there is so much oil being spilled that:
- You or other people/cars can slip on it
- You lose sufficient to compromise engine lubrification

As long as it is just a bit "sweating" I wouldn't worry about it. If it really leaks a lot it is a different story.

This however is advice coming from a non-mechanic, so don't take this for the one and only truth, it's more of a 2 cent advise.

quarter size drops on the floor is no leak, 5"+ diameter is leak.

From a shade tree mechanic......exactly correct

Just be sure to check your oil level on a regular basis
