Default MAF sensor broken

To refresh the car after mancation II Orbit was checking over my car and removed the airbox to get a good look at the belts. They discoverd the broken MAF sensor.

How does can this break when hidden behind air filter?
Only Champion and Orbit ever touched the car for service....

Something happened when it was off the car or either that screen was not secured on very good from the factory. Only air goes through there....really odd huh?

It can't just break. Look at your air box and see if there are any marks from someone trying to remove the MAF from the airbox. I would guess someone tried to pull the airbox out to change the filter by removing the MAF from the box and it is extremely difficult to get back in, easily resulting in the damage pictured. The good thing is the the MAF housing is replaceable for less than $100.

That doesn't just break...someone broke that.

Good thing is, as mentioned, it's an easy/cheap fix.

Peter the disturbing thing is whomever broke that, could've easily remedied the situation. Talk to both shops about it, particularly the one that last changed the air filter.

Peter, completely removed the air filter for that little edge in the recent track days rallye, and the engine swallowed a small bird doing 140mph.
Now he is trying to blame the shop.

Classic.

BTW: in reality that screen is there not to prevent birds from dying, but to help smooth out the air-flow and evenly distribute it for the MAF to read steadily and correctly.
