Looking to put some numbers behind the perception.

So is saving 38lbs worth it to you?

If you NEVER plan on driving the car on the street

I live in Florida and drive on street sometimes

So to me, it is important

Getting the weight and complexity out of the engine compartment is great. And you'll pull out all the plumbing, condensor, drier and hardware, so 38lbs would be a conservative estimate of the improvement overall. But as noted, driving on the street becomes unpleasant and for "only" 40lbs +/- ... ?

The "throw money at it and see what sticks" alternative is to get viperbob to order all the parts from a 2010 Cup and piece together a hybrid solution that uses an electric compressor in the frunk. You get some of the weight saving and you relocate all of the weight from the pendulum to snug between the front axles where it's actually helping with handling. You'd have to get Bob to explain what's needed and what it took in terms of numerous hours to install, but I know he's done at least one semi-street car. Anything's possible!

Definitely climate related.. Otherwise everybody would / should spec a GT3 without it.

Second owner of an '07 RS with "air conditioning not desired" option. It's all good as long as you have other vehicle options.

If you have a white GT3 or RS, it's livable, but not comfortable. For an experiment, just turn off the AC for a couple of weeks and see if the air fan alone is enough to keep you semi-comfortable during warm summer days in your normal daily driving. I tried this in '07 and came to a very quick conclusion. : )

even new race cars are required to have cooling systems for driver.

the new RSR comes with some sort of cooling system.

got to have it unless you plan on keeping it parked.

38 lbs is such a tiny fraction of the GT3's weight (it'll never be a Lotus Elise and even then 38 lbs is pretty insignificant), I think you would not notice the difference. Considering how convenient A/C is for traveling (I wouldn't try most of CA or Arizona without it, let alone most other states), defrost etc. I say you're better off spending a few bucks on some lighter wheels/brakes.

Definitely better off with lighter wheels, PCCBs, seats, 9 lb. lithium battery, Wevo mounts, Sharkwerks bypass, Euro bumper bar, no tools, etc. Or, then again, you can have that and no A/C
Yeah, I know, "get a Cup car."

i think it's worth it, if you live in a moderate climate, you are serious tracker, and this is one component out of many to lighten car, you don't dd car, and you are not going to re-sell.
if i were lucky enough to buy a 4.0 i would definitely order it with a/c and radio delete/s.

had a base GT3 with a/c
have an RS without a/c

open windows and there is all the a/c you need

full a/c and my respiratory system do not mix...one day of that and I feel like I have less T-cells than an entire ID ward.

btw, 38 pounds of free hp cost how much in engine/other mods?

as far as climate demands; raced numerous times at that sweat-box know as Sebring in the RSR with sealed windows...even with a cool suit and helmet blower, still lost 3-4 pounds of fluids per session! ran without it and same results (foggy headed, though!)

all a matter of preference and tolerance in the end, i guess

Well said Larry... Racing teams can't afford to give away 100ths of seconds and do away with hp zapping AC yet they spend big dollars and some weigh on cool suit systems for their drivers. A hot, flustered driver isn't going to perform at his best...

I doubt that there are more than a handful of us here that can make a 40lb AC system removal improve our times... Why? Because most aren't even able to consistantly drive their cars at 10 tenths lap after lap...
