Default thermal wrap - cats ?

Hello,

Im in the process of taking off cargraphic exhaust and replacing it with custom 100 cell race cats and 70mm into 65mm straight pipes. Weight reduction being the main objective. What is the concensus opinion about thermal wrap around the cats ?

Do u have smog regs? If not why not go with catbypass for more weight loss? 100 race cell mite still trigger cel 200 cell not so. Mike ps- u lose another 20 lbs from stock cats.

yes - restricted on smog regs plus need to be under 107db. CEL not an issue - either will set reporting off and/or use o2 simulators (minicats). the issue is should i wrap cats or not - ive heard different opinions - and think it might decrease cats life somewhat - but then EGTs shoudnt get above 1,400deg C anyways where problems start with cats. still researching....

Quality 100 cell race cats like HJS motorsport / FIA approved etc need no warping.

link with certificates: http://www.hjs-motorsport.de/en/3/30...downloads.html

Using them for years. Never an issue.. On the other hand I had all sorts of problems with 200cell cats.

I don't think it's necessary to wrap cats plus with wrap u can't tell if there's a leak at the welds(removing wrap ain't easy) ESP when it's got some mileage. I would only wrap a cat if u removed those aluminum foil like liners on rear bumper. Without those foil liners your bumper would melt. Mike

Think I have to follow up on this - rarely have I seen such service, quality and passion in the industry.

Had limited time frame to find a builder for the exhaust - and unfortunately UK guys had to bail (well june was super busy for them with races in UK - with build postponed I had to find other alternatives).

With only a week or so to spare I contacted Stef - not sure about forum rules here - but its the belgian outfit we likely all aware off. They have super specs for the cats - 100cell / 153mm special design emitec cores. Cats spec alone on paper are the best I've seen. Stef and his brother worked overtime and shifted build queue a bit to fit in my custom exhaust - 100 cell cats, short pipe to tips - muffler delete (no cross-over or X-pipe), custom hangers/brackets, no blankets. Guys are PRO and I owe them big time for helping me out.

They do deserve all publicity they can get. Handcraft quality, workshop itself, dedication and passion - TOP. I guess for guys looking for 100cell exhausts with muffler(s) - they should not be overlooked. I know for sure whoever built my prior cargraphic system didnt have a piano in the workshop, nor did they take time to go over prototyping the way Stef and his brother operate.

I drove to the workshop and cargraphic exhaust was off and new exhaust on in a couple of hours with Stef finishing the brackets. I used that time wisely on a carting near-by (great track btw). System I had was around 22kg or so and new one is around 9kg. Unexpectedly - and as a bonus I got some torque back around start of my powerband 3.8rpm or so (have gt3 throttle body and larger volume plenum/y-pipe and rs tuning mod turbos). So defo helped the spool and I need to soften the rear a bit. Waiting impatiently to test it all on track. Sit of the pants tells me to up my expectations

PS: Stopped by RS-Tuning (big shout to Toby from them - only when I drove thousand or so km I realized who is Toby they kept on mentioning !!!

PS 2: Noise ? what noise ??? stelvio pass bikers loved it

Europipe rocks.

RS tuning rocks too.

Cargraphic's quality of exhausts is so and so.. And you have to remember that most of them are made in England.

These are the forum rules:

call a spade a spade : )

Skip the wrap, no benefit in your case.
