Default 315/30ZR18 R888 tire on a 12" rear rim

Hi,

it was kinda a 'standard' opinion that best Toyo R888 combo for 9/12 rims in 18" is 255/315. But looking at toyo web site it says that max width for a 315 tire is 11.5.

Does 255/335 really produce such an understeer that 255/315 is still a better choice even considering that 315 is not wide enough for 12" wide rear wheel?

Regards, Paul.

thanks John, I had this set of 255/315 in the basement since Feb but again, it does not hurt to ask the community once again, to keep down doubts.

heh. find someone in the USA who can put them on a ship for you for free.

I do not have too many - v710 and r888 are only sets i have so far. should be enough for this season...

Great.
Some of the guys are planning a Euro trip. Each one will take a tire with their stuff and leave them to Jim in the ring. I will collect them later this year.

The 305 tire is the appropriate size for the 12" rim

We ran this set up in World Challenge on 12" wheels.

The sizing is a little midleading.

it is indeed misleading

305/35ZR18
10.0-11.0-12.0
26.3
12.4

315/30ZR18 98Y
10.5-11.0-11.5
25.5
12.5

So I see 315 is only 0.1 wider than 305 but diameter is 25.5 instead of 26.3 on 305.
So 'proper' setup for 9/12 rims would be 255/305? or 265/305?

the 35% profile of the 305 allows for more stretching. It's not misleading in that sense.

So did you guys run 265/305 ? Like this ?

265/35/18 : 25.30
305/35/18 : 26.41

That's pretty close to the stock diameters :

235/35/19 : 25.48
305/30/19 : 26.20

but with a bit more rake.

One advantage of the 255/315 is the smaller diameter gears you down by 3% and lowers you a bit, but those are small effects :

255/35/18 : 25.00
315/30/18 : 25.44

It seems maybe 11.5" rear is actually the more general purpose size.
