I suppose Laguna and Sears might be tracks that favor power, but in amateur driving, there's few straights were the stronger vettes can create the gap and keep it. At Laguna in the 3.6 GT3's f'rsintance, they walk away up the main straight, but you gather them up under brakes at the first hairpin (and then it's just a matter of waiting for the reluctant point-by and counting the blue flags all the way round to the front straight ...) The 3.8 RS doesn't give up much in the straight line.

They can be fast for at least a few laps but with Hoosiers they are stupid fast. I mean disapearing fast.

All things being equal, z06s walk on GT3s. There. I said it. If you're passing them in your GT3, there is some kind of disparity.

Unfortunately, +1. (I still wouldn't buy one though)

It sounds like the disparity is looking at straight line acceleration (where the humble 3.6 GT3's are at a disadvantage in power and torque, with no gearing or weight offset) and the impact of tires and other "simple" upgrades (front brakes) allowing the Z06 to significantly improve apex speeds and braking distances.

Subjectively, I don't see a Z06 "walk away" from a GT3 other than 2nd gear acceleration out of tight hairpins. Lap times being the measure, not straight line giddy-up out of the turns.

The ZR1 is an impressive machine all round (just put the blinkers on before getting in the cabin) and it sounds like the 2009+ Z06 (Carbon, too) are appealing track toys ... I wonder how long their carbon rotors last ... and given these cars are around $90K, they're hardly cheap fun any more.

This draws attention to the value for money in a 997.1 GT3 or RS by comparison and "for a few dollars more" the 3.8 RS ... well, it speaks for itself ...

The Z06 has an advantage in both weight and power. I don't see the disconnect. They set FAST lap times.

That's idiotic.

There's no way you can get a wheel stud replaced on a 599 for as little as $1300.

GM are morons for not offering a set of Recaros in these cars as a option. The seats are truly the worst in any sports car I've ever driven.

OP: I've heard fantastic things about the Carbon and have even considered one. Can't wait to see pictures. PS: I think I've already seen your car up on ebay at a healthy margin Enjoy!
This interior is all alcanterer on seats, steering wheel, arm rest,Blue deviated stitching.Seats do suck I agree.Putting in gt3 RS carbon seats.

Sounds like a fun car. I drove the ZR1 last summer and was in awe of the power. If you're replacing the seats, please let us know how the replacements work.

Just out of curiosity, why the change?

Oh yeah, pics!
