Default 997.2 GT3 Brake pad installation issue with pics

So I think I am pretty good installing the GMG exhaust

And have the brake pads changed and bled

With GMG CL and HO-HOs ready to go

And go out to bed the brakes following pagid instructions, all is well until the second series of 90-50 breaking when the right front starts binding and shuddering the car, I hobble in and it looks like it was in a race and is smoking, obviously in constant contact with the rotor (no pic of the smoking pads)
I remove the pads and there is a small chip on the trailing edge of the inner pad which may have been just from the high temps and a potential red herring.

and now I cannot get the rotor to move freely without removing the metal backplate (transferred from the old OEM pagids), with the backplate off there appears to be no problem. But I am reluctant to take it out before some sage advice.

You guys have been invaluable getting me to this point but I am at a loss. Is it okay to track without the backplate? The pucks and pistons appear fine. Am I a dumbass and over my head? Thanks in advance.

Take it out, completely unnecessary.

I track a 997.2 gt3 and use pagid rs 29's all around. I've run 10 days on the rear already with no backing pad. No problem at all.

Was the backing plate cocked in any way? Or not well positioned?

No problem running without it, but I am surprised that it wouldn't fit... Are Pagids thicker?

I checked the backing plate and it was in the correct position on removal after they stopped smoking. My thoughts at this point are that the thick new pads with the pucks and backplate are just too tight with the thermal expansion. I did note the rubber pucks stick out a little and maybe the metal plate pulled them out slightly on installation. Glad to hear it is fine to use without the Plate.
I am not sure if the r29 pagids are thicker than the oem pagids.

Oh yes...chitcan that stupid plate... all it will do is cause problems.
Too bendy and puts uneven pressures in all sorts of odd ways.

I tell folks "Bare caliper, bare pad"

Yeah my customer tried that literally once. Installed the pad material towards the pistons and the backing plate to the rotor... Not a good installation.

I can confirm that you do not need the backing plate. Have used quite a few sets of Pagid RS29 front and rear without the backing plate. No issues at all.

thanks for all the responses...makes me wonder why the plate is there at all. Will post pics when the GMG's are on.
Who thinks I should remove the other 6 backing plates or can it wait for the next pad change? Taking out the fronts are no problem but I am not excited about removing the rear calipers again.
Oh and thanks to Fabryce at GMG, Carl at Trailex, and Craig at Rennstore for their help, and also to all you active posters who share so much knowledge.

If they are in and not causing any issues, leave the backing plates in until next change. the less you remove the rear caliper bolts and re-install, the better. Remember, you are inserting a steel bolt into an aluminum upright, there have been issues and care is needed.

Update:
brought the car to a race shop for a look and they are convinced that the fronts pagids r29s are just too thick and I had to put the old ones back on, luckily there are a few more days in them.
Anyone else have any similar issue??
They did not see any problem with the pucks or pistons and with everything pushed as wide open as possible they were still in contact wtih the rotors.
