Default WARNING - Pirelli Trofeo Shred - Must See

Some of you may have seen my knock knock knocking post. Took the car (gen 2 RS) into MSW today for them to tighten up a few bolts. Up on the ramp, the left rear took their attention.....

This tire has done two track days and less than 600km. The second photo is to show the even tire wear. Traction control has always been on. I am very shocked at this and obviously taking this up with Pirelli.

Anyone else had this yet?

The gutting thing is I cannot get any replacement tires here in the UAE AND michelin are not doing the 325 rear in the new super sports yet.

What shall I do?

1) Stick with Pirelli? Doubt they will do anything? There is no stock either (one rennlister here has been waiting for several weeks now). Who would be good to talk to in USA for importing?

2) Change wheels and get 18" and slicks?

3) Look at other manufacturers?

4) Would Michelin Super Sports in other sizes fit the wheels?

Weird things happen to tires on the track, more so in the heat!
Look at F1 this weekend.

I had them cord on the inside for no appearent reason, even this weekend. I've had chunks of thread flying off, bead wires sticking out, etc.

Check allignment and buy new tires. Don't waste energy on it. It will happen again.

Lucky you didn't experience a blowout on track with a tire THAT compromised. But like others have said, the track can do very weird things to tires.

I've seen about 10 different guys running Trofeos in the hot climate here and have never heard of abnormal wear let alone catastrophic failure like yours. Pirelli might actually care about what happened here--see if you can work out a deal with them for an exchange?

It was a segment they did on a local radio station in Melbourne many years ago... A guy known as "guido" would prank call people all around melbourne and the world and stir them... Heaps on youtube- check out the pope one, english hotel and royal family ones- heaps of classics and very funny...

Is track a CW configuration? I've used high temp rubber cement one time but that is too big to patch. I would invest ^in 18 inch rims and track tires. Mike

Wow!!

A couple of guys, including myself, have experienced a strange wear pattern with Trofeos, but this looks more like an accident. I had my first set of Trofeos on for less than 15 laps at the Autodrome when I experienced a puncture. Turned out it was a nail. On the track! Actually, I had gone up in the bowl as a result of a late late breaking mistake, so that's where I picked up the metal. The Autodrome is notoriously littered with debris after race days, so maybe you went a bit wide or spun and your tire got shredded.

We discussed with Pirelli last friday at the Yas event and were told that they are developing an evolution of the Trofeo with mixed compounds, kind of like a motorcycle tire. No date for release yet, but this should be interesting!

Let us know what you can get out of Pirelli. Really curious!
