Car Arriving - Check Step w/Rennlisters
To All
My car is arriving next week (2011 GT3 RS in Zanzibar) at Porsche of the Village in Cincy and having a GMG Rollbar installed with Schroth's (thanks to the prior recommendations of this forum), and track alignment done by Wright Motorsport. scott40 also has given me the source for clear bra work. I have a set of the OZ's w/tires mounted for the track. I want to stay stock with the motor and suspension right now, no chips or dog bones, etc. at this time. I plan to track it 4-6 times this year and drive it occasionally on weekends just around the region. As it will be at both POV and Wright's next week, what am I missing. While it is in, what else is basic that should be done?

I have steel - my hope was to use the factory pads for the first few events as I was getting comfortable with the car - I take it that may be a mistake - I have about 30+ schools over the past 6-7 years and do instruct, but this is my first Porsche and I am not a racer, HPDE only

I can melt stock pads in 20 minutes at Sebring, would not my waste my time
If you want a source PM me

What tires do you plan on running?
The stock MPSC are G A R B A G E on the track
If you are going with OZ I assume that is 19"
I would rather drive backwards on Peter's street Falkens than use R888......so welcome to club Hooters
If you havnt ordered rims yet....I have a litle biddie that told me very soon you can get CCW, centerlock in 18 for $2,900.....RS fit olny

The OZ's are 19's, already in my garage w/the stock MPSC's N-spec on them. Call me weak, but I have driven Hoosier R6's for the past 3 years on a Z4M coupe, but the thought of starting there with this car scares me.

GT3 is not scary on track, just point and shoot

Also, do you know if they're available in .2 steel brake fitment?

Izzone - I trust you are correct as they are not the preferred track tire, when you say garbage, do you mean:
1) Inconsistent over a cycle
2) Get greasy quickly
3) Just wear badly but grip is OK
4) Grip is never there
5) No warning at the limit
6) A unlimited number of other possibilities

I think what Izzone meant was "once you run hoosiers, most everything else is garbage"
I say immediately go right for the hoosiers after burning through the MPSCs. I too am coming from a "safer" BMW ('08 M3) as a track car to the .2 GT3 (my first pcar) and in the same boat as you with regards to my anxieties (and excitement) over driving this crazed ***-engine beast on track for the first time. However, after some very spirited drives in the GT3 on the street, I soon realized it's not the hard-to-tame beast I expected it to be. It's actually amazingly balanced compared to some friends' 996s and 993s that I've driven. And the amount of grip is so high even with the mpscs that it will keep you safe unless you do something stupid like try to drive it near 10/10ths on your first session. Just don't lift carelessly and always brake in a straight line, but as an instructor you already know that. If anything the GT3 will just let you know more than your previous BMW when you've violated such rules. Congrats on the new ride when you get it!

RS29 might be just as good......
They have pads for .2 steel
I think for ME20 (endurance) compound
$400 ish for front
$350 ish for rear
I have stop tech STR so I am kind of guessing

The N spec MPSC is more of a street tire and not a true MPSC (different rubber compound I think)
The stick on N spec is not that good.....better than PS2 and that is it
the cost is crazy.....for what you get it is a waste of resources....to me....but I run old date code RA1
