Default Audi R8 V10

Guys, I was looking to upgrade from a 07 GT3 to a new GT3RS, and starting looking at an Audi R8 V10. Any thoughts on this vehicle?

I had one and traded it for a scud after 500 miles. Sounds great, comfy cabin but reminded me of an old mans car(65+, I'm 45) ala AMG. Very heavy car to track, eats rotors and tires like nothing else.
That being said, I just put a dp on the R8 GT. We'll see how that goes.......

sold mine after 6 months. used at the track, its a fine car but somewhat boring. my rs mkII was much faster at the track and in straight line acceleration it about the same, give or take car length. one last thing. the r8 v10 has a peculiar trait with all stability systems off. the car will feel like its going into oversteer mid corner, but when ur about to give it a little bit of opposite lock it doesnt need it. i cant really explain it but it feels unsettled and takes away some confidence in an otherwise benign vehicle.

the above is quick snippet from a track day last year with both my cars, im in the rs (stock car, factory alignment and the r8 is lowered, aligned and equiped with a gmg exhaust + sprt cups). im taking it fairly easy in the rs and buddy is really working in the r8, but the rs was about two seconds quicker at this short track all day.

Never driven a V-10 but the V8 is not real exciting on the track... It's Heavy, numb, & too easy...

That being said, IMO there is nothing better looking available. So as a street car be prepared to be swarmed with people, thumbs up(s), and attention. They are HAWT!

I've driven both. As mentioned here, the RS is better for track duty and the R8 is an awesome road car that goes like hell. I like the R8 a lot, but if I was going to put down the coin, I'd pick up a 2008 Lamborghini Superleggera. Sames basic platform and engine, way lighter. More exciting car all around, but I wouldn't want it as a DD.

Thanks for the replies, I would use the R8 as a street car.....keep the GT3 for the track. I am concerned about the numbness of the vehicle. Especially compared to the GT3

Dave I never knew you had an R8, you sneaky bastard. I drove the R8 my very 1st time at road Atlanta with the V8 and wasn't impressed. I know the V10 is a lot faster

Nice, how much did your lift cost? How high are your ceilings?

I'm contemplating a R8 V10 as a DD replacement for my RS4 but will probably end up going the 997 TT route. The R8 is a lovely road car as others have expressed but the rockstar looks are on the exotic end of the scale for those trying to stay under the radar.

I didn't particularly like the R8 when I'd driven it on the road or on the track, surely the v10 has a bit more gusto but really I felt like the RS4 was more of what I wanted in a DD and stuck with that for a few years.

I think in that price range, you're better off getting something really comfy and keeping the gt3 hardcore as it's intended. I've driven everything from the VW gti (love it- great features and DSG) to the CGT and currently am driving a Bentley (long story but it's not costing me anything)

DD are point to point cars, so don't spend anything more than you feel is practical or necessary. The real fun is either had on the track or in cars with backseats! haha

For a drop top I'm still eyeing the R8 cabriolet. When I saw that car at the 2009 la auto show I couldn't help but POP a boner.

It's a great street car. Never had it on the track, but sounds like a non-issue for you.

Numbness? Not sure I know what you mean. The V10 is a blast to drive. Nothing numb or sterile about it.

Only thing I don't like is the rock star attention it gets. Just not something I enjoy.
