Dare I say it? 997.2 Carrera S >= .1 GT3?

Not on the track it ain't.
The thing is if you have a GT3 you wont be able to admit it unless you are truly honest. And a GT3 owner is too biased
I have Tried and Tried to convince myself to go up to the .2 GT3 or RS and cant do it because of this sleeper. I believe now that the 9A1 motor is a GT1 Motor replacement and Porsche hit a home run with this combo. I cant imagine what a PDK TT is like. It must peel the paint off a lady's face.

If I remember correctly, Walter Röhrl did a 7:42 Nürburgring lap in a .1 GT3, and Porsche posted a 7:50 lap for the .2 997S PDK (on Michelin Cup tires.)

one has to really be in the constant high rpm range to understand the difference in the power band with the GT3. The ability to rev so high and create power at that level when needed on the track is what sets it apart.
The porsche GT3 does however need a new gearbox/shifter to compete with the ferraris etc....
will be interesting to see what the 991 brings and how good it is over the test of time....

The GT3 power band is the difference. I will concede that the PDK will enable faster shifts, but the accomplished driver will get more out of the GT3.

Dep Dog,,,the S is undoubtedly a great car. Hp and torque not withstanding, the real difference is in the innards of the GT1 motor.
Track that S hard like a GT3, 30 times a year and one of those motors will eventually caugh up its guts and it won't be the GT1.
Also, hit your marks in the turns and you will come out even faster than the high hp/tq TTs.

deputy, straightline speed on the track is heavily reliant on the exit speed of the last corner.
maybe they're getting some exit speed advantage?
you could have 100hp more, once you behind, it's hard to catch up.

Let me back up a bit here...
I will certainly agree that in the proper hands, a .1 GT3 will be faster than a .2 S around a track. However, the .2 S I'm guessing would be close. Chris Hall drove Mr. Drums car (.2 S) and said he could do a 2:26 in it. And that's a stock car with R compounds and pagids. I "think" Chris managed to do a 2:27 with Mr. Drums in the car. And Mr. Drums would never be considered for a position as a jockey
However, when it comes to power, I think the .2 S is on par or even slightly quicker. I've done highway roll ons with the manual .2 S and the results are always the same. Pretty much dead even or a slight nod to the .2 S.
I may be only a 2:30 guy at Sebring, but I'm not so much a hammerhead that I can't floor it and shift quickly at redline
That 3.8 is a great engine.

FWIW
Chris hal did a 2:19 in a MKI GT3 on Hoosiers. The cars 250lb owner was in the car.
Pre coaching me did a 2:22 on Hoosiers, so GT3 is faster.
I do agree with you that the speed of the engine is the same or very, very close either way.

Yeah, but Motons is a big difference at Sebring me thinks..and very small diffrence 996 and 997..
2:20 flat needs real talented right driver on R compound if stock.
See you Friday at around 3PM

#1 Chris Hall did a 2:26 with me in my car...2009 997.2S on newish R888's.
#2 My Best is a 2:28. Chris is a pro I am not! His corner entry speeds are scary fast. Chris is on the edge on every corner, and he is comfortable with that. I am only close to it in certain corners. I know my limits, it's only a DE and I have to drive my car back home.
#3 I was doing 2:30 this last weekend and my R888's have 7 DE days on them now. They are slippery. I find with R888 as they heat cycle out 1-2lbs less pressure helps. I am running 35/36 hot.
#4 Dog, I pull you down the back straight because I exit T16 faster.
#5 Dog, I am pulling you around the track because my corner speeds are higher. I suggest you hire Chris Hall for a day. Work your way up to the speeds, learn your limits. It's all about braking and balancing the car.
#6 Dog, I followed you for many laps and you lines are good but as you speed up you will need to early apex a little more, trust the grip and carry more speed in the turns, especially in T3/4/5 section then T10 and T13. You were really good through T1 BTW.
#7 Dog, my CCW's are strong wheels...not the lightest. They weight with R888's on them the same and my stock 19" cast wheels with Michelin PS2's on them. CCW's are strong 1st and not the lightest. Going to 18's will not automatically make the car faster.
#8 NCT510, the new 9A1 engine is proving to be very track worthy. Speed Merchants has well over 10k track miles on a 997.2S race car with PDK with no issues with the engine and PDK clutches!
#9 I'm at a point where my 997.2S is leaning over way to much in turns. If I keep this car I woul dlike to fix that but still keep the car streetable.
#10 hopefully someday Porsche will make a GT3 that I can drive.
