Just got home from a DE at Roebling Road
My first two days I was on RA1, at the end of the first day I got in the marbles in 9 at a decent rate of speed and the back end left me....I mowed lawn, slid through pit row, mowed more lawn, took out apex cone, caught air, slid through track mowed more lawn.......tires were flatspotted to the cords. Had to goe back up tires
As a back up I had brought a set of R888 with some life left in them. I drove on them today......and today will be the last time EVER on R888. My car felt terrible (two seconds slower). Had my friend who drives a cup take it out, he thought my shocks were bad the rear end was so loose. Yes they were older tires, but my RA1 were older and faster.
I do not want to debate if you think R888 are good, I think they suck and am looking for alternates that can give decent life beyond Hoosier at lower cost per track day
I do not have a doctor wife, so am looking for the best bang for the buck
Hoosier / good tire / low heat cycles
RA1 / perfect tire / getting expensive
Goodyear Eagle RS / heard they are good
Kuhmo / ???? need input
Michelin PSC / do they fit
Pirelli / expensive?

MY opinion only.
R888, i can craw faster
RA1 for your use, is best. dont bother trying anything else, really.
good eagle RS... ugh..
khumo, i dont think they have the "correct" size, though they are workable. last almost as long as RA1 but faster. last longer than hoosiers.
MPSC. yes, they fit your car. but it's a lot more $ than RA1, not much faster if at all, no as consistent as RA1.
pirelli: no experience.

What size Michelin PSC will fit on 18" rim for 997.1 GT3? It looked to me they only make 295 rear

Izzone as of right now in 18" R-Comps there is nothing left but R888. Nitto NT01 do not have the correct fittments. The NT01 rear diameter will be too small and ABS/PSM will freak out in hard braking zones.
997 cars must have a larger rear diameter. BGB had major issue running their Caymen in the Rolex Continental series test due to not having the proper tire size.
I find R888 to be really good from new till about the 4th or 5th day then they still have plenty of tread but they get progressively more slippery. I found RA1's to suck the 1st few days then they got really good till almost the cords.
My R888's 245/305 are about worn out....I can squeeze 2 more days from them. I'm going to try out R888 in the smaller diameter...but the rear will still be larger than the fronts....in 255/315. This should gear the car down some for better acceleration.
If you want more choices then you will need to trailer the car and run Yokohama, Michelin or Hoosier slicks.....for me I can't because I drive to and from the track...so R888 is my only choice.

I trailer, don't care if they have tread
Just want best bang for the buck.....highest heat cycles, lowest cost, ra1 like performance
If r888 is only choice I am going to Hoosier

Check out the Yokohama slicks. Tkerrmd and some others like them much better, longer wear and so forth. Ask Viper Bob (Bob Brooks) about them.

Mooty said Nitto's worked on one of his 997 3's. That is what I run on my 6GT3. 315 R 245 F. I've been happy with them.
