Question GT3 revs at 3k ???

I am curious what rpm 997 Gt3s yield at 3k revs in 3rd, 4th & 5th.

I find my 993 C4S at 3k in 3rd (43mph), 4th (58mph) and 5th (68mph).

Thanks

.1 or .2?

Here's the thing you need to Google:

Thanks for that link (above).

Amazing, unless I am reading the 6spd chart wrong (?) it looks like the 993 (C4S) matches the Gt3 spd at 3k revs in 3rd.

But the Gt3 is slower at 3k revs in 4th and 5th (?).

Hey guys, I may be wrong but they look like the gear ratio graphs for the non-GT cars (note: lower redline). Not sure of the top of my head if the GT3 and non GT cars share the same gear ratios...

Just at face value, it looks about right: 3rd and 4th are about the same, the 993's 5th is a tad taller and ends up between the 997's 5th and 6th -- and I find the 993 top gear to be practically useless, it's there just for mpg, but I can't remember being on a track where it came into play ... this is true for 911's until you get back prior the 5-speed in '89 G's. I seem to recall 5th (top in a 964) was just about as useless unless you were on a 150 mph track (not common around California.)

Am I right to assume that if buy a 997Gt3, that I can daily drive to Philly (70 miles) in 3k revs just like I do now in my 993 C4S ?

Thanks,
Patrick

You can probably drive on the highway under 3kRPM as the new cars have higher low-end torque.

Thanks, I should however note that I can only pull off a 2007 Gt3 and thus keep the '96 C4S as back up. The newer Gt3 2010/11 versions are out of my $reach.

I am also soon to be on the hunt for a .1 gt3 but the RPMs in 3rd never even entered my mind.
Are you concerned with fuel mileage?

Limiting oneself to 3,000 RPM in a GT3 would not only be criminal, but likely impossible from a self-control standpoint!

Am not concerned about fuel, I just want the driveability if (and I will) have to crawl along with the masses on rt30 toward Philly. It gets old in the 993, boredom sets in during the two hour trek. I am thinking a '07 Gt3 would keep me alert. In my 993 (C4S) I rarely can get out of 3rd (58mph) on rt30; can pass in 4th (68mph) but cruise in 3rd.

Todays's cars can cruise at much lower RPMs. As others said, I hope you do not get a GT3 for mostly cruising.

Two hour trek in slow-n-go traffic? I'm afraid you should seriously consider PDK. The GT3 will not make that drive any more entertaining than the 993. More comfortable, but otherwise, well, maybe get in the habit of downloading audiobooks from Amazon/iTunes/audible.com ? : ) (ps. seriously. go borrow a PDK car for a day ... it's a delight in slow-n-go ... better yet, look at a Benz with Distronic or a Panamera or Cayenne with the Porsche Adaptive Cruise ... keep the 993 for sport driving and track days, but I have to tell you, once you get used to Distronic/Adaptive, the tedium factor is reduced to survivable levels. Also, even further off topic, the V6 Panamera is a lot of fun to throw around. : )

The GT3 will comfortably cruise at 100kmh in sixth gear at 2600rpm... It'll be very drivable... Do it all the time when driving down to the peninsula... And its drinks far less than my 2litre Nissan turbo doing it...

My 996 GT3 will wind out at 115 mph in 3rd gear and get lousy MPG. Or cruise at 75-80 in sixth and get 28MPG. The roads are flat here.
