This kit might be a better solution; we have ordered one and do plan to see how well it works on a future build. It looks like it is not a complete kit though from the auction descriptions, we will determine this once we have seen and tested it.

To weld this will probably add 5-6 hours of labor (maybe more) to further disassemble / clean everything and weld, plus the ~$200 in parts etc. There is a greater risk involved in ruining the cast pieces and there's always the possibility the weld will crack later too.

had something like this on the 993 case of my 3.8L GT2R car....we solved it with a backyard stepped double male AN compression fitting in several areas and never looked back...any thoughts on this Alex or Dan?

hey fellas a few of you asked where these two pipes are located.. I'll show you just why the engine has to be removed to install these from a recent 3.9 SharkWerks build:

FYI- Celebration of Speed event at Pocono 2013 will not allow any 996 or 997's with coolant line problem to run without proof of repair!!! 1st event I know of to state policy. it will be on their web site when event is posted.

Those replacement pipes look really great. I'm looking forward to getting mine installed next week. One less thing to worry about. . .

Ohio Valley Region started requiring this last year. They are running an event at Mid-Ohio April 12-14.

I'm not comfy sending any gt1 based gt3 on track without the coolant pipe fix. Or turbo for that matter...

And for those of you asking for 997 TT or GT2 turbo engines we have a similar kit available too:

AND the Safety Chair at a PCA Chapter asked me if I was an Engineer & asked me how I could make the claim that they will all fail. I've decided I don't have to be an Engineer but I'm sure they will all fail.
held together with spit and glue. PCA will not take a position. Everyone watch out for the falling off exhausts also.

If you own a car with the GT1 engine and it has failed this way, give them your VIN. If you won't do it for your own sake, please do it for the rest of us. Otherwise, it looks like we're just mice.
When I experienced my failure this past January I filled out this NHTSA form as recommended. This morning I was contacted in email by an investigator asking for additional details regarding the incident. I'm not sure if this is a normal response to incident reports or if it indicates something more. The specific question about track use leads me to believe that it was not a routine followup. I sent him all the information he requested.

Dear Nugget: My name is {redacted}, I am an investigator with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the US Department of Transportation. I am interested in the report you filed with us regarding your 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 coolant loss. Can you give me some more details about what happened when the problem occurred? How long have you owned the vehicle and when did this problem start to show up? Do you use the car in any racing or club events? Can you please e-mail/send/fax copies of any repair orders you have related to this problem? Is there anything else you can tell me would be helpful in understanding the problem you experienced?
